Resident Evil Requiem briefly appeared during the latest Capcom Spotlight, with the development team delving into the core concepts and protagonist. It also confirmed that the story takes place 30 years after the missile strike on Raccoon City in Resident Evil 2.

Director Koshi Nakanishi cites “Addictive fear” as the main concept, with the catharsis of overcoming your fear creating an addiction to play more. Grace Ashcroft is a new type of character in the series – easily scared, but thanks to her FBI training, she possesses deductive reasoning and firearms training.

Interestingly, the team considered making Leon S. Kennedy the protagonist but felt a horror game with him “would be difficult” and that he was a bad match for the same. They didn’t outright confirm his absence, so keep the hope alive.

Other intriguing points include the evolution of visuals, like Grace’s face turning red from hanging upside down and the realistic hair physics (with the team using a real-life wig as a model). There are many expectations for Requiem, especially after everything that’s happened in the series, but it’s considered a “eulogy” to the characters who came before.

Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27th, 2026, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It will also be playable at Gamescom in August and has recently crossed one million wishlists.
