Games with detailed physics simulation are a rarity. So, we have compiled some of the best games that feature impressive physics effects.

Modern video games do a great job of mimicking real life visuals with highly detailed environments and smooth animations, but they generally lack in terms of simulating lifelike physics and destruction mechanics. But that’s not always the case, and some games do a great job of crafting worlds that not only look but also behave in a realistic fashion – and here are 15 examples of recent video games which have stunning physics effects.

Teardown

Tuxedo Labs has delivered an enticing playground of destruction with Teardown, which lets you lose in complex levels with nothing but a set of tools and your imagination to pull off heists with increasing difficulty. The game features fully destructible environments with physics properties, and the game encourages you to smash walls and blow up stuff to chart the most efficient path to your objective and back to the starting point. The voxel based art style might look primitive at first, but it has its own distinct charm that will slowly grow on you as you spend more time with the game.

From high-octane arcade racers and detailed simulations to simcades and kart-racing, the industry has seen some incredible racing games till date.

Racing games are an interesting genre, capable of appealing to all kinds of players. From realistic sims to arcade titles, there’s a wide range of choices available with futuristic settings, open-world games, and so on. Let’s take a look back at some of the best racing titles, and what makes them so great.

Burnout Paradise Remastered

Burnout 3: Takedown was a major change in direction for the series with its speed, wrecks, and overall addictive gameplay. Criterion’s Burnout Paradise went even further with an open-world environment and the freedom to progress at one’s own pace. This is on top of fully customizable race settings, a reworked damage model, streamlined progression that rewards new cars consistently, and much more. Crash Mode could even be accessed at any time via the new Showtime Mode. With an incredibly well-designed urban playground and fun gameplay, Burnout Paradise stands the test of time.

THQ Nordic confirms that Wreckfest will launch for the Nintendo Switch one June 21, and will be priced for $39.99 / €39.99.

Since its launch for PC in 2018, Bubgear Entertainment’s car combat arcade racer Wreckfest has amassed a sizeable player base and fan following, and the fact that the game’s been brought over to pretty much every platform that’s available has certainly helped it. Last year, it was confirmed that Wreckfest would also be releasing for the Nintendo Switch, though updates on the same completely dried up following that.

Now, publisher THQ Nordic has confirmed that Wreckfest is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch on June 21. It will retail for $39.99 / €39.99. On the Switch, the game will offer 16-player multiplayer, 30 FPS performance, and two seasons’ worth of content- season one includes 20 each of vehicles and roof decorations, a car customization pack, and more, while season 2 brings another 12 additional cars.

Check out the Switch version’s release date trailer below.

Currently, Wreckfest is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia.

Sony’s revealed the set of games coming to PlayStation Plus in May, and for once, the rumors flying around the internet were right. This month’s trio is Battlefield 5, Wreckfest: Drive Hard, Die Last, and Stranded Deep.

The big name this month is clearly Battlefield 5, the latest entry in DICE’s megahit shooter franchise. We liked it quite a bit here at GamingBolt. While the game received its final content update last year, the game is a great shooter that’s packed with content and still being played.

Wreckfest: Drive Hard, Die Last is the latest from FlatOut developer Bugbear. A full-contact racing game where players upgrade their cars to survive the onslaught of vehicular mayhem, Wreckfest reviewed well when it released in 2019 and features a Challenge mode and up to 24 players in multiplayer.

Stranded Deep is a survival game. Players are stranded in the middle of the Pacific Ocean after a mysterious plan crash and must scavenge supplies to craft the tools, weapons, and shelter they’ll need to survive the elements and animals of the Pacific.

May’s PS Plus titles will be available for download from May 4th to May 31st. If you haven’t picked up April’s games – Days Gone, Oddworld Soulstorm, and Zombie Army 4 – you have until May 3rd to do so.

The upgrade will cost an additional $10 for those who already have the game on last-gen consoles.

THQ Nordic and Bugbear Entertainment recently released a patch for their high octane racing title Wreckfest that added support for 4K and 60 FPS on Xbox Series X and 4K and 30 FPS on Xbox Series S– but it seems they aren’t done just yet as far as next-gen updates for the racer are concerned.

It’s been confirmed that Wreckfest will be releasing on PS5 on June 1 with a native version. The upgrade will bring support for 24 players in multiplayer races, dynamic dirt on vehicles, increased amount of foliage, higher resolution textures, new visual effects for skidmarks, godrays, and improvements to shadows, particles, and environment lighting. You can also expect support for the DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, in addition to significantly faster load times.

Meanwhile, Wreckfest will also be seeing a similar release on Xbox Series X/S. That will be coming later in the year, but no specific release date for that has been shared yet.

There is a catch though- there is no free next-gen upgrade option. If you already own a last-gen copy of Wreckfest, you’ll need to pay $9.99 / €9.99 to upgrade to the next-gen version.

Wreckfest is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Several developers over the last few months have taken the opportunity to leverage the combination of the Xbox Series X/S’ more powerful hardware and backward compatibility capabilities to go back to older releases and boost them up for the newer consoles, either in terms of resolution or performance (or both). The latest game to do that is Bugbear Entertainment’s car combat title Wreckfest.

As revealed by the developer in the patch notes for the game’s most recent update, Wreckfest now runs at 4K and 60 frames per second on the Xbox Series X, while on Xbox Series S, it runs at 4K and 30 frames per second. Whether the latter is running at a native resolution hasn’t been specified, though it seems unlikely.

It’s worth noting that this same update hasn’t been made available on PS5. Owing to how the PS5’s backward compatibility functions, several games have missed out on similar enhancements on the console, in spite of receiving them on Xbox Series X/S, with the likes of Rocket League and Star Wars: Squadrons being notable examples.

Wreckfest is available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S via backward compatibility.

Arcade classic Killer Queen Black becomes available for consoles and the cloud on February 23rd. Codemasters’ DiRT 5 will follow on all three platforms on February 25th alongside massive space exploration title Elite Dangerous for consoles. Superhot: Mind Control Delete goes live on February 25th for PC subscribers.

Xbox Game Pass has added titles like Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age, The Falconeer, Project Winter and Wolfenstein: Youngblood thus far in February. It should be interesting to see if any other titles will close out the remaining few days of month. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.

A variety of titles come this month to Sony's streaming service.

While several companies have entered into the streaming game as of late, specifically Google with their Stadia program and Microsoft with Xbox Cloud Gaming/xCloud, it can be easy to forget that Sony was one of the first with their PlayStation Now service. It is still going strong, too, and this month we’ve got a whole new batch to look forward to.

First up, the headlining title is no doubt Sony’s first party title, Horizon Zero Dawn. That is the Complete Edition, so the game’s expansion is also included. Alongside side that is a helping of action titles with Darksiders 3 and The Surge 2. For something a little more methodical, the survival game Stranded Deep is coming, and then we have some crazy indie with the incredibly tongue in cheek sidescroller Broforce and racing title Wreckfest: Drive Hard. Die Last. You can see more details at the official blog through here.

These games will be on PlayStation Now and playable on PS5, PS4 as well as capable PCs starting this month.

These games aren't the most accurate representation of Newton's laws but that's okay.

Preserving a sense of reality in games can be essential, especially when it comes to immersing your audience. However, the opposite also holds true as a game can break all laws of physics and still come across as a compelling experience. Let’s take a look at 15 such titles with inexplicable physics.

Goat Simulator

Explaining the sheer insanity that is Goat Simulator and it’s various add-ons would take too long. Playing fast and loose with physics is a given here, either due to numerous bugs or from the inanity of, say, a goat headbutting a gas station. There’s also that part where you do sick flips on a trampoline and lick a car to slingshot your goatly hide across the map. Need we say more?
