The Wolf Among Us 2 Has Switched to Unreal Engine 5

Having started development in 2020 on Unreal Engine 4, Telltale confirms its highly anticipated sequel recently switch to Unreal Engine 5.

Fans have been waiting for The Wolf Among Us 2 for long time now, but Telltale Games has confirmed that the wait for the highly anticipated sequel is going to be even longer than previously expected. The game has been delayed out of 2023, with the developer confirming that decision was partly driven by wanting to avoid crunch and simultaneously delivering an experience that lives up to expectation.

Another factor that’s contributed to the delay is a switch in engines. Speaking with IGN, Telltale Games CEO Jamie Ottilie confirmed the same. Having started development in 2020 on Unreal Engine 4, Ottilie reveals that The Wolf Among Us 2 recently switched engines and is now being made using Unreal Engine 5. As a result, Ottilie says “quite a bit of work” that had already been done is having to be redone using the new engine.

The Wolf Among Us 2 is now expected to launch sometime in 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, with all of its episodes being developed together, unlike its predecessor. Telltale also has The Expanse: A Telltale Series in the works alongside Deck Nine, which is expected to release this Summer.
