Sony has recently announced that Bluepoint Games, the developers behind the incredible remakes of Shadow of the Colossus and most recently, Demon’s Souls, will now be part of the PlayStation Studios roster. In a recent interview with IGN, head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst and Bluepoint President Marco Thrush also talked about the company’s next project, which, interestingly enough, will be an original new game.
Of course, given Bluepoint’s penchant for crafting remakes, fans were assuming that the studio would yet again be focusing on its strengths for the new project, with rumours mentioning Metal Gear Solid remakes. As it turns out, Bluepoint has already confirmed that its next project will be original content.
“Our next project, we’re working on original content right now. We can’t talk about what that is, but that’s the next step in the evolution for us,” Thursh said.
“Our team is a very highly experienced team, the average experience among most people is about 15 years, and all of them come from original development. It’s not like we’re a bunch of developers that got trained up on making remasters and remakes. We have that original game development mindset in our hearts, and that’s what we’re now ready, finally ready with the support of Sony to push forward and show what we can do, and show what PlayStation can do.”
Bluepoint’s acquisition by Sony isn’t surprising, considering the plethora of rumors on the topic, but its time is certainly noteworthy. After Xbox, it seems that Sony is now on its acquisition spree, with studios such as Firesprite, Housemarque, and Nixxes being acquired very recently as well.
