Cyberpunk 2077 Won’t Be Censored In Australia, CDPR Confirms

"Australian gamers are set to enjoy the full Cyberpunk 2077 experience," says CD Projekt RED's Kuba Kutrzuba.

CD Projekt RED have made it abundantly clear that they’re not going to pull any punches with the maturity of their content with the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, and sure enough, the game’s age ratings from certification boards seem to be falling in line with that. To no one surprises, it was handed an 18+ rating in Australia as well, but surprisingly enough, the open world RPG won’t be censored in the country, which is notorious for its strict age ratings for games that often even see products getting banned.

Speaking recently with GameSpot, CD Projekt RED’s Kuba Kutrzuba said that Cyberpunk 2077 will not be censored in Australia, and fans in the region will be getting the full experience. Kutrzuba says receiving a rating in Australia was “an important milestone” for CD Projekt RED, before confirming that they did not have to alter the game’s content in any way for that purpose.

“Receiving an age rating in Australia was an important milestone on our way to releasing the game in September,” Kutrzuba said. “We’re creating a mature title for a mature audience, so we were expecting R 18+. We haven’t had to alter the game in any way and Australian gamers are set to enjoy the full Cyberpunk 2077 experience.”

Censoring of games (or any media) can be a controversial move, so it’s good to know that Cyberpunk 2077 won’t have to resort to that, especially since it seems the violence and explicit themes very seem look like they’re crucial to the story the game is telling and the world that it is set in.

Cyberpunk 2077 is out on September 17 for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. CD Projekt RED recently confirmed that the game will be present in IGN’s upcoming Summer of Gaming event in June, as well as the recently announced Summer Game Fest.
