Dead Island 2 is “Around” 20 Hours Long – Art Director

Dambuster's Adam Olsson says this is including "some secondary missions and other activities" in the upcoming action RPG.

Dead Island 2 launches next month after nearly a decade since its initial announcement. Developed by Dambuster Studios, the action RPG features six Slayers hacking and slashing through the undead in the ruins of Los Angeles. With several locations to explore and an arsenal of weapons, what can players expect in terms of playtime?

Speaking to WCCF Tech, art director Adam Olsson and narrative designer Lydia Cockerham were asked for an estimate of the game’s duration. Olsson said, “I don’t know exactly. I think we have guidance stating that if you take part in some secondary missions and other activities, the whole experience is around 20 hours. That’s what we have.”

The figure factors in some side quests, but “On top of that, we have the co-op mode, collectibles, and you could always replay Dead Island 2 with a new character if you feel like it,” says Olsson.

The development team previously confirmed that this isn’t an open-world game and that each district varies in size. You may come across more expansive districts with “various side quests and activities.” Progress enough through the story and new districts unlock, with the option to return to previous ones. The zombie types are also different in each.

Dead Island 2 is out on April 21st for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC. Head here for more details on what to expect.
