Dead Island 2 has been a long time coming, but in the lead up to its launch, developer Dambuster Studios is making some intriguing promises for the action RPG. With its vibrant setting and first person carnage, it seems to be shaping up to be a solid sequel- and one aspect of the gameplay in particular that the developers are quite excited about is the skill deck system.
Speaking recently in an interview with Game Informer, creative director James Worrall and lead narrative designer Khan touched on the skill deck system, calling it “one of, if not the most exciting addition to the game” and talking about the variety and flexibility that it will enable in the game’s moment-to-moment combat and how players shape their loadouts and builds.
“The art is amazing and they’re fun to look at and all of that, but they’re just really fun to play with,” Khan said (transcribed by GamesRadar). “You can change skills mid-air. You can take off, change a skill, and land with a different loadout, and that’s just amazing.”
Worrall added: “You can take some real risks with your loadout as well. It really pays off… and sometimes, goes horribly wrong.”
Dead Island 2 is due out on April 28 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
