DOOM Eternal Developers “Already Have Ideas” For the Series’ Future

"You never know when the cool idea is going to come along," says director Hugo Martin.

As a sequel to one of the best modern first person shooters, and one that looks like it’s going to be bigger and better in every way possible, DOOM Eternal is without a doubt one of the most hotly anticipated upcoming releases. But while we all giddily await its imminent launch, it seems like developers id Software are already looking ahead to the future.

Recently, in an interview with Joe Rogan (transcribed by VGC), DOOM Eternal director Hugo Martin said that the developers are already thinking about what’s next for the series after the upcoming release. Though he obviously stopped short of actually mentioning the next game in the series (“I’m not allowed to say that,” he explained), he said that id Software already have plenty of ideas about future DOOM content. That, of course, also includes DLC for DOOM Eternal.

“We’re already moving on to… I don’t want to say ‘the next thing’ – that is a PR answer, because I’m not allowed to say that – but we have ideas, certainly, and DLC [for DOOM Eternal],” he said. “Certainly we’re always dual-tracking things and talking always, because you never know when the cool idea is going to come along and you’re [always] jotting down notes. We keep those conversations going on the side and see how it goes.”

You can watch the full interview below.

DOOM Eternal is out on March 20 for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. On Stadia, it will not support true 4K (contrary to prior promises). That said, it’s looking to hit new technical heights on PC- check out the system requirements through here. Meanwhile, prepare yourself for its imminent release with its new launch trailer.
