Fable Has Been in Development for 4 Years, as per Lead Engineer

Playground Games' Tom Golton recently tweeted about working on the project for four years. It's currently slated for Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Playground Games has Forza Horizon 5 releasing on November 9th but it’s also been working on Fable, reboot of Lionhead Studios’ classic franchise that was announced at last year’s Xbox Showcase. Details have been fairly slim though Anna Megill, who was a senior writer on Control, is confirmed to be the lead writer. It will also be developed on ForzaTech according to a job listing.

A recent tweet by lead engineer Tom Golton does provide some information on how long the project has been in the works though. Celebrating another year working at the studio, Golton said, “4 years of working on Fable at @WeArePlayground. So excited for this game.” This would mean that it’s been in the works since 2017 (with rumors circulating as early as 2018). Keep in mind that this may include pre-production and that active development may not have begun until later.

Fable is currently slated for Xbox Series X/S and PC. It apparently won’t release before 2023 along with titles like Perfect Dark and Avowed. Stay tuned for more details on the title in the coming years.
