Last month saw a number of high-profile releases from Watch Dogs: Legion to Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. However, the highest-grossing title in October as per SuperData Research was miHoYo’s Genshin Impact. Considering it released on September 28th for mobiles, PC and PS4, and is still going strong, this is a pretty noteworthy achievement.
Despite featuring mechanics like gacha and limited-time events, SuperData noted that its “gameplay inspired by console role-playing games and action-adventure titles attracted players who may have avoided mobile gacha games in the past.” Sensor Tower reported that player spending had hit $245 million within the game’s first month of launch so clearly it’s resonating with its intended audience.
Its popularity is expected to continue for the time being with update 1.1 adding new characters and quests along with limited-time event. The update also enabled PS5 support, allowing the title to run at 60 frames per second. Even more content is planned for December with the third region, Dragonspine, expected to be out by then.
