Starfield is set to add some long-awaited features with its upcoming update, including graphics modes on console, expanded ship building options, surface maps, and much more, while later on in the year, Bethesda Game Studios will also finally be adding land vehicle to the game. Beyond that, however, the developer is also working on a full-fledged expansion for the space-faring RPG in the form of Shattered Steel, and though not much is known about it yet, some interesting new details may have potentially been unearthed.
Spotted by a user on Reddit, in Bethesda’s recent video detailing the aforementioned upcoming update, the developer seems to have left behind evidence that suggests Shattered Space will be focused on the mysterious faction known as House Va’ruun. For about a fraction of a second at 4:50 in the video (much more easily spotted when viewed at .25x speed), off-screen footage of development work on the expansion briefly shows a few lines of code, all of which seem to reference to House Va’ruun.
House Va’ruun, for those unfamiliar, is one of the many factions in Starfield. The theocratic group prays to a deity it calls the Great Serpent, has a tumultuous and violent history, and has largely isolated itself outside of the Settled Systems. Though Andreja, a major companion in the game, is a member of House Var’uun, the faction itself doesn’t play a huge role in the base game’s story.
Starfield: Shattered Space is set to launch for Xbox Series X/S and PC sometime this Fall. Recent leaks have claimed that it will be unveiled in June and released in September. The game is also set to receive full mod support sometime this year.
