As excited as some may be for new ship-building options or city maps in Starfield, there’s the ever-present question of when official mod support will go live. Director Todd Howard confirmed it would be this year, previously stating the sci-fi RPG would be a “modder’s paradise.” As it turns out, some new information will be dropping soon.

Speaking to Kinda Funny Games (transcription via GameSpot), Howard revealed that its Creation Kit is currently with “some people, some of our creators for Starfield. You’re going to hear some information about that soon. I don’t have a date to announce for the full release, but [it’s] really, really important to us. Like, our modders out there have been incredible.”

Bethesda is also still on track to support mods on consoles. “Absolutely, 100%, yeah. We’ve seen [console mod support] become such a huge thing for Fallout and Skyrim – that’s definitely important to us. The thing about Starfield was that we were kind of able to take those learnings [from previous games] and kind of build that stuff – from the beginning – to have some long legs.”

Though Starfield has seen declining player counts since launching last September, there are big plans for it. Howard touted the title receiving “a lot” of post-launch DLC of “varying sizes”, with the first paid expansion, Shattered Space, out this Fall. There are also plans for new gameplay options and even “other display modes” on consoles.

Starfield is available for Xbox Series X/S and PC and playable on Game Pass. Check out our review here and stay tuned for more updates in the coming days.
