Remasters of all three Crysis titles will be available as a bundle for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch. They're also "optimized for next-gen."

After some teasing on Twitter, Crytek has officially announced the Crysis Remastered Trilogy, which features Crysis Remastered, Crysis 2 Remastered and Crysis 3 Remastered. The bundle will release this Fall for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch (though it’s also “optimized for next-gen”). Check out the teaser trailer below.

Crysis Remastered is currently available standalone and it will be possible to purchase the other remasters individually as well. In a press release, project lead Steffen Halbig said, “We’re excited to announce that these iconic Crysis games are returning in one bundle, remastered for a new generation of hardware. Each game is enhanced to look and play beautifully on today’s platforms, delivering the finest Crysis experience for both newcomers to our classic franchise or players wishing to relive the adventure.”

Crysis 2 and 3 are notably different from the first game since they take place in New York City. The former sees players taking on aliens and trying to save humanity with a more powerful Nanosuit, new abilities and more. The latter sees the city turned into a sweeping rain forest with the player facing all kinds of enemies with the help of the new Predator Bow.

It should be interesting to see how these remasters fare, especially since Crysis Remastered received criticism for its visual quality and cut content. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

Project lead Steffen Halbig speaks with GamingBolt about the remaster.

Crysis has a special place in the hearts of many people in this industry, especially where the PC gaming scene is concerned. Its legacy as one of the most technically impressive games of its time will always remain embedded in our minds, while there’s no doubting that even outside of its visuals, Cyrtek’s first person shooter was a ton of fun to play and had a lot of merits from a gameplay perspective. There’s been no shortage of cries for the franchise to make a return, and while a sequel still remains elusive, Crytek have gone back to their beloved property with Crysis Remastered, overhauling the visuals of that very first game and bringing it to modern audiences. Recently, we reached out to its developers to learn more about the remaster and what fans can expect from it. You can read our conversation with the remaster’s project lead at Crytek, Steffen Halbig, below.

NOTE: This interview was conducted prior to the game’s launch.

"Over the last decade we received so many awesome comments – on a daily basis! – asking us to bring the Crysis franchise back to life. We considered the possibility of a remaster many times, but the timing wasn’t right until now."

It’s been a while since we last saw anything from the Crysis series- what drove the decision to revisit the first game for what’s looking like a very elaborate remaster?

Over the last decade we received so many awesome comments – on a daily basis! – asking us to bring the Crysis franchise back to life. We considered the possibility of a remaster many times, but the timing wasn’t right until now. Crysis has been used as a benchmark throughout its lifespan, and our own expectations at Crytek are high – we want any Crysis Remastered release to have visuals as stunning as they were when we first experienced them in 2007. With the current CRYENGINE technologies, we were able to meet those expectations on all platforms by adding software-based ray tracing, up to 8K textures, HDR support, and many other improvements.

What can you tell us about the implementation of ray tracing in the remaster, and what it adds to the game’s visuals?

Ray tracing is definitely the biggest game changer for Crysis Remastered. Everything started back with the Neon Noir demo we released to showcase CRYENGINE, and to see that technology on Crysis Remastered is absolutely fantastic now. You are all going to love the reflections.

Are you looking to add any new gameplay improvements or QoL upgrades to the game with this remaster?

We felt that the core gameplay and story didn’t need any changes – we wanted to give everyone who played it almost 13 years ago the same feeling they had playing at the time. The mechanics, Nanosuit combat – We have implemented the new and old Nanosuit controls, and gunplay also still hold up pretty well today when compared to contemporary shooters. That being said, we used some of the adjustments made for the previously released console version. I believe that counts as a quality of life improvement.

Crysis was the poster boy of games with cutting edge tech and world class visuals when it first came out. How important is it to you guys to ensure that the remaster does justice to its legacy, and actually make the game look better?

It is very important for us that people see Crysis Remastered as a new fantastic visual game. Especially the PC users will feel it since we maxed out all features. Our goal was to improve everything we could in the remaster, and put in all the new technology we had to hand.

"The development on the Nintendo Switch went pretty smoothly. In Saber we have found a great partner with a lot of experience on the Nintendo Switch."

Speaking of its legacy, “Can it run Crysis?” became a meme in and of itself after the game launched- and now it’s coming to the Switch, too. How does it feel to bring the game to the system? What drove the decision to do so?

We like the Switch and have always wanted to release a game on it. Working with Saber Interactive – who have an impressive track record on Switch – made this the right time to release Crysis Remastered on Switch and with it to an entirely new audience.

What have been the biggest challenges – if there were any – for getting Crysis to run on the Switch, run well, and look good?

The development on the Nintendo Switch went pretty smoothly. As mentioned in the previous question, in Saber we have found a great partner with a lot of experience on the Nintendo Switch. The biggest challenge was to find the right balance between new features and performance. Where we made good progress with optimizations, we added a new feature.

I’m sure you’ve already fielded quite a few questions about this, but bear with me while I ask this- why did you decide to not include Warhead in the remaster? Was it a case of wanting to focus more on the base game and not wanting to split resources across what effectively would have become two separate campaigns?

When Crysis Warhead was released it was a stand-alone game with the corresponding scope. Crysis Remastered is our first priority, but we are aware that Warhead is high up on players’ wish list for a remaster. We’ll let you know once we have decided.

Will the game will feature Xbox One X and PS4 pro-specific enhancements?

Yes, for the PlayStation 4 Pro we’ll offer three modes and are aiming for the following resolution:

Quality Mode: 1800p / 30 FPS

Performance Mode: 1080p / 60 FPS

Can it run Crysis? Mode: 1080p / 30 FPS with maximized visual settings

And on the Xbox One X we’ll have:

Quality mode: up to 4K / 30 FPS

Performance mode: 1080p / 60 FPS

Can it run Crysis? mode: 1080p / 30 FPS with maximized visual settings

How is the game running on the original Xbox One and PS4, in terms of frame rate and resolution?

On the original consoles Crysis Remastered will run at 1080p with 30 FPS.

"We are aware that Warhead is high up on players’ wish list for a remaster. We’ll let you know once we have decided."

What are the docked and undocked resolution and frame rate of the Switch version?

We are aiming docked 720p and an undocked 540p with 30 FPS.

Given its close proximity to the release of next-gen consoles, have you given any thought to PS5 and Xbox Series X ports of Crysis Remastered?

For now we’ll release Crysis Remastered on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Switch. We are considering a lot of things, but it’ll take a while before we might be able to announce anything.

Be straight with us! When Is Crysis 4 coming?

Okay, we’ll be as straight as possible: we are focusing on Crysis Remastered right now.

Crytek’s Crysis Remastered may have already made its way to Nintendo Switch in July but the development team spent additional time to polish the visuals for other platforms. It recently unveiled ray-tracing and 8K resolution textures for the current-gen version but that’s not all. PC players can take advantage of an exclusive graphics setting called “Can it Run Crysis?” The meme has truly come full circle.

As revealed on Twitter in a new in-game screenshot, this mode is meant to “demand every last bit of your hardware with unlimited settings.” Other noteworthy graphical features include “state of the art” depth fields, SVOGI for global illumination, motion blur and more. So it should be interesting to see how this new graphics setting pushes the visuals to their limit.

Crysis Remastered is out on September 18th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. It will sadly not include the standalone expansion Warhead. If the remaster is successful, it could pave the way for other Crysis titles to be enhanced. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks and check out the PC requirements here.

Can your PC run Crysis meme is reborn for a new era.

When the original Crysis was released in 2007, it garnered a reputation as being a game that stressed even the highest end of PCs of the time. The game’s later ports to PS3 and 360 saw its graphics significantly toned down, adding to its legend. Now the game is getting a remaster, and it’s time once again to see if your PC can run Crysis.

The game’s official page on the Epic Games Store is now live. Since this is a remaster, it lacks the fierceness needed of modern machines as you’d expect, but you’ll still need, at minimum, an Intel Core i5-3450 or an AMD Ryzen 3 with 8GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 TI or an AMD Radeon 470. For recommended, it’s bumped up to an Intel Core i5-7600k or AMD Ryzen 5 with 12GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 TI or an AMD Radeon Vega 56. Both minimum and recommended see 20GB of HDD.

Crysis Remastered is set to come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on September 18th, as you can read about through here. The game is already available on the Switch.

The Fall/Winter deluge is upon us, starting with these big releases.

September is here and while the wait for any release date or pricing info on the Xbox Series X and PS5 is becoming agonizing, the bigger titles are starting to arrive for current-gen platforms. This month sees a variety of games, whether it’s co-op focused looting, high profile remasters or sports titles, both good and questionable. Let’s take a look at the 10 games worth playing in September.

WRC 9

Can’t or won’t wait for DiRT 5? Maybe Nacon’s WRC 9 can fill that rally racing void. Developed by Kylotonn, it’s the official title of the 2020 FIA Rally World Championship season. It includes all of the calender’s rallies along with three new rallies set in Kenya, Japan and New Zealand. All of the WRC 2, WRC 2 and WRC J drivers and cars are here, and players even get two modes. These are the League system for challenging friends and Co-Driver mode for co-op play (which could make for some fun chaos and ruined friendships). WRC 9 is out on September 3rd for Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC with Xbox Series X and PS5 versions coming later.

Marvel’s Avengers

Announced more than three years ago, Marvel’s Avengers is releasing on September 4th for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Google Stadia (though Deluxe Edition owners get early access on September 1st). The story begins with the Avengers being disbanded before fast-forwarding to several years later with AIM hatching some nefarious schemes. With Kamala Khan aka Miss Marvel, players will reunite our heroes and attempt to stop AIM’s plans. Featuring six playable heroes at launch, each with their own unique abilities in addition to beat ’em up style combat, Marvel’s Avengers promises a hefty amount of War Zones, Drop Zones, Story missions and much more at launch. Things won’t end there though as new regions, heroes and story content will arrive post-launch.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2

Tony Hawk is back, in a way. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2, in essence, is a ground-up remaster of the first two games with support for 4K and 60 FPS. This alone is great since it includes all of the pro skaters (albeit aged to reflect the current times), levels and most of the soundtrack from the original games. However, Vicarious Visions is also adding new skaters, challenges and tracks, expanding on the experience even more. All of this along with Create-A-Park, Create-A-Skater and local and online play – what more could you want? Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 is out on September 4th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning

Tis the month for remasters and Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is one of the more anticipated, especially given the tumultuous fate of the original game. Players assume the role of the Fateless One in the Faelands with the goal of stopping the Tuatha Deohn and potentially rewriting fate. In the process, they’ll unlock several different classes spread out across three core stats, partake in heaps of side quests, and tear foes apart with some neat hack and slash combat. Out on September 8th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning features improved graphical fidelity and all of the DLC along with the base game.

eFootball PES 2021 Season Update

Contrary to what EA Sports is doing with the FIFA and Madden franchises, PES Productions will simply be updating the player data and rosters for eFootball PES 2020 while also adding three new ambassadors in this update. Referred to as the eFootball PES 2021 Season Update, it launches on September 15th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC for $29.99. In the meantime, the development team will focus on next year’s sequel which is built specifically for PS5 and Xbox Series X. It may be a long wait but those having fun with PES 2020 and simply needing a roster update are in luck.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds

First, the good news: 2K Games is taking a break from wrestling sims this year to put the time and care needed into WWE 2K22. Instead, however, it will publish an arcade-style wrestling game with power-ups, over-the-top moves and cartoonish characters developed by Saber Interactive. At $40, WWE 2K Battlegrounds is promising quite a bit, whether it’s a full-fledged Career Mode with pre-made characters, over 70 wrestlers to play with (and more coming post-launch) or numerous online modes. We’ll see if it turns out to be even more good news for the franchise when it releases on September 18th for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch and Stadia.

Mafia: Definitive Edition

After the debacles of Mafia 2 and 3’s Definitive Editions, you couldn’t be blamed for wanting to ignore Mafia: Definitive Edition. Thankfully, it’s a ground-up remake of the original, one that features a new lighting engine, remade cutscenes, new story sequences and gameplay elements like motorcycles and more guns. Also, judging by gameplay footage thus far, its performance looks good while the revamped visuals are sharp and capture the spirit of the original. Mafia: Definitive Edition is currently slated to release on September 25th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC so we’ll find out just how well it fares in due time.

NBA 2K21

Despite all the controversies surrounding monetization, the NBA 2K series continues to see success. NBA 2K21 arrives on September 4th for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch and Google Stadia, with the return of MyTeam Unlimited and Card Evolutions (with some changes here and there). There’s also the opportunity to apparently play for “Championship Rings”, whatever that means. Sure, the next-gen versions will have more content, including a larger soundtrack, but they also costs $10. If you need that basketball fix, then NBA 2K21 might – heavy emphasis on might – be worth looking into.

Spelunky 2

The aggravating yet wholly entertaining and revolutionary Spelunky is finally seeing its sequel release this month. Spelunky 2 doesn’t try to reinvent its predecessor’s gameplay so much as expand it, heading to the Moon and offering more dynamic living stages to engage in. New areas, characters, items and traps coincide with branching paths, animal mounts, base camp building, liquid physics and improved visuals for the ultimate roguelite platformer. It’s out on September 15th for PS4 first with the PC version coming a few weeks after.

Crysis Remastered

The original PC benchmarking game has returned, sadly without the Warhead expansion. Nevertheless, the delay from July to September has done the first person shooter well. A recent trailer showcases stellar 8K textures, SVOGI for global illumination, depth of field, motion blur and ray-tracing for both normal and water reflections. How much has changed gameplay-wise remains to be seen but graphically, Crytek is looking to make an impact. Crysis Remastered arrives on September 18th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Sneak-peek trailer showcases ray-traced reflections, new lighting system and 8K textures.

After being delayed for a few weeks and launching for Nintendo Switch first, Crysis Remastered has a release date. Unfortunately, it’s not today as some reports claimed but September 18th on Xbox One, PS4 and PC (with the PC version exclusive to the Epic Games Store). In the meantime, check out the sneak-peek trailer below which highlights the gorgeous new visuals.

Along with a new lighting engine and updated assets, the remaster sports textures at up to 8K resolution. Ray-tracing is in effect for both normal reflections and water reflections. Other technical additions include “state-of-the-art” depth fields, sparse voxel octree global illumination or SVOGI, motion blur and much more.

Overall, the results look pretty good and worth the extra time for additional polish. Whether Crysis Remastered will fulfill the meme of being nigh-unplayable on most modern PCs remains to be seen but expect some fairly hefty system requirements. Stay tuned in the coming weeks.

The delayed remaster seems to have stealthily had its release revealed.

Crysis Remastered had something of a strange road. Technically speaking, the game was never officially announced before some leaks that were not particularly well-received made developer Crytek decide it was best to delay the game for some extra polish (except the Switch version, which released on time last month). There hasn’t been anything officially said about the new release date, but it seems that may have slipped today.

While nothing has been said from the developer, a new video from PlayStation Access, which you can see below, detailed the new titles coming to the PS4 this week and, surprise, Crysis Remastered is said to be coming this Friday (it’s even the thumbnail and background for the video). While this is obviously about the PS4 version, most likely it would come alongside the Xbox One and PC ones as well.

Unless we’ve witnessed quite the snafu, it seems Crysis Remastered will finally be coming out to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on August 21st. The Switch version of the game is available now.

Yes, it can run Crysis.

Starting today, the Nintendo Switch can proudly say that it can run Crysis. Crytek’s beloved first person shooter, which was (and has been) the bane of man PCs, is out now in Nintendo’s hybrid platform, thanks to Saber Interactive’s efforts with Crysis Remastered. A launch trailer for the game has also been released, which you can check out below. There’s gameplay footage in there, of course, and it continues to look surprisingly great, especially considering the hardware it’s on.

Crysis Remastered on the Switch is an impressive port, running at 720p-900p resolution when docked, and at 540p-720p when being played in handheld mode, with a locked frame rate of 30 FPS across the board. It also features FXAA, but software-based ray tracing – which will be featuring in other upcoming versions of the game – is not included. There is gyro aiming though, which is good.

You can check out about 30 minutes of gameplay footage of the game’s Switch release through here, if you want a taste of how it looks before deciding whether you want to jump in yourself.

Crysis Remastered was originally supposed to launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC today as well, but following negative reception for leaks, those versions got delayed, and currently have no specific release date.
