Inti Creates has announced the release date for its upcoming side-scrolling action game Grim Guardians: Demon Purge.

Developer and publisher Inti Creates has announced that upcoming side-scrolling action game Grim Guardians: Demon Purge will be coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on February 23. The studio has also released a release date trailer to go along with the announcement.

The trailer shows off a fair bit of the fast-paced gameplay you can expect from Grim Guardians: Demon Purge, showcasing both playable characters with their unique anti-demon weapons and abilities.

Grim Guardians: Demon Purge puts players in the shoes of the Kamizono sisters, with one using ranged attacks with her SMG and the other using her sword for melee combat. Players will be able to make use of both sisters’ unique abilities to traverse through the game’s various levels.

The game also features 2-player co-op, and is set to have extensive difficulty options through what the studio calls the Style system. It also promotes repeat plays through unique changes.

For all games that come from crowdfunding, including those from legendary Creators, it always feels like something of a mixed bag. Some land and some don’t, but Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night landed for fans of classic Castlevania, and even got a second 8-bit spin-off with Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2. The game has been updated well, and now it’s time for more, including a new style that will push those looking for a challenge.

The new update that brings the game to version 1.3.0 has a few bug fixes, but the star of the show is the Legend style added. It’s a brutal new difficulty where enemies respawn from off screen and one character dying means all your available characters die. It’s not recommended for noobies and sounds like it’ll test even veterans.

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch and PC. The latest update is available now across all platforms.

Inti Creates’ Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 is out today for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch. Though it’s a larger game with multiple playable characters than its predecessors, there’s even more content on the way. The developer confirmed that update 1.2.0 would release on July 16th and adds Bosh Rush Mode.

You’ll need to complete “certain in-game conditions” to unlock it but afterwards, it can be accessed from the title screen. The update will also include various bug fixes. More detailed patch notes can be expected in the next week so stay tuned.

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 embodies the same 8-bit, Castlevania-esque gameplay as its predecessor. Zangetsu returns and this time, he’s joined by three new playable characters including Dominique from Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Players can swap between these characters at any time, using their abilities to progress in different ways. Two-player local co-op will also be available at launch for even more intriguing possibilities.

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 was perhaps the best surprise performance to come out of the recent New Game + Expo, with Inti Creates confirming that they’d be releasing a sequel to their indie throwback Bloodstained offshoot. Now, they’ve released a new trailer for the game, dropping plenty of new details.

The trailer confirms that Alfred, Gebel, and Miriam among the playable characters featured. If you’ve played Ritual of the Night and the first Curse of the Moon, you will, of course, be familiar with them. The game will feature two player co-op, with the trailer’s YouTube description stating players will be able to “combine the abilities of different characters and create a near limitless amount of new ways to traverse stages and defeat tough bosses.”

The trailer also confirms that the game is out in just a few days. Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon releases for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on July 10.

Zangetsu returns in a new story with three new playable characters.

Remember Inti Creates’ retro throwback Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon? Well, it’s getting a sequel in the form of Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2. Announced at New Game+ Expo, the sequel will be released for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch. A release date has yet to be announced.

Zangetsu is the protagonist once more, and he’s still hunting down demons. This time, there are three new playable characters that will aid in his journey, including Dominique the Exorcist from Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Each new character has different abilities and tools, adding more replay value to the game.

They can also access different areas and shortcuts, making for an easier experience (if the player so chooses). A nice little twist is that each new recruited ally can be switched at any time during the game, and they each have their own health. Series creator Koji Igarashi is working with Inti Creates, supervising the new story, and though it has no release date yet, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 is certainly worth keeping an eye on.

An ode to Mega Man Zero.

After a few years during which it seemed like Mega Man might be done for good, Capcom has finally started to pay attention to their mascot blue bomber again over the last few years. While we are nowhere close to getting the sheer staggering variety and volume of Mega Man releases we used to in the franchise’s heyday, at the very least Capcom has been repackaging that volume and variety for modern consoles. We’ve already received the Mega Man Legacy Collection and the Mega Man X Legacy Collection, and the newest bunch of games to get that treatment is the Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection.

There are many long time fans who swear by the Mega Man Zero games. These titles, which are off-shoots of Mega Man X (which itself was an off-shoot of classic Mega Man), are renowned for their tough as nails difficulty, and their darker take on Mega Man mythos, featuring heavy storytelling and world building, taking off some of the Saturday morning cartoon veneer that has pervaded the franchise since its inception, and taking the plot to dark places. Make no mistake, it’s still a kid friendly series, of course – but it gets surprisingly mature a lot of times.

That storytelling aside, the Mega Man Zero and ZX games are marked by their almost character-action style emphasis on style and finesse, as well as their ambition in terms of level design, with some of the later games in the series even trying their hand at Metroidvania design (I say trying, because they weren’t too successful at that). That apart, all the hallmarks of the series – such as the iconic boss battles – are here, viewed through the lense of the extremely agile and capable Zero.

"Mega Man Zero /ZX Legacy Collection achieves the impressive feat of letting purists and traditonalists enjoy the games exactly as they originally were, should they so desire, while also adding a lot of bells and whistles for newcomers."

It’s funny that you’re playing as Zero, arguably one of the most powerful characters the series has featured, because the Mega Man Zero games themselves are almost soul-crushingly difficult. The level design itself can be unforgiving, and actual combat with enemies does not suffer fools well, with even a simple mistake or miscalculation costing the player dearly.

All of that has made it over, unscathed, into this collection. Mega Man Zero /ZX Legacy Collection achieves the impressive feat of letting purists and traditonalists enjoy the games exactly as they originally were, should they so desire, while also adding a lot of bells and whistles for newcomers, or simply players who don’t have the time to spend hours and hours at the same boss battle. These concessions include a Quick Save system (which you can toggle on and off at will, and which includes liberally placed checkpoints to help take the edge off of deaths and failures), as well as a Casual Mode, which is a “story focused” mode that reduces the damage dealt to you, while increasing your health pool (in some cases).

For fans who played these games as kids, and want to return to them, but no longer have endless hours at their disposal to spend on games, these modes are lifesavers, letting them relive the highlights of the Mega Man Zero and ZX experience, while not subjecting them to the torment that was the high difficulty of those games (especially the earlier ones). For newcomers, these modes can be great to ease them into the games.

"As with previous collections, Capcom has gone above and beyond to make Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection stand out as a celebration of the series."

These casual friendly modes aren’t the only changes or additions, either. As with previous collections, Capcom has gone above and beyond to make Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection stand out as a celebration of the series, an homage to all it was and is, a museum that even fans who don’t necessarily want to play through the games again would be happy to have in their possession. From concept art to a music player collecting the tracks from across the six games, to collectible unlockable cards, leaderboards (which are online enabled), which also come with a new race mode where you race against your own or others’ best times, there’s a whole lot in here to add to the core collection of the six games.

Those six games, which were originally released for the Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS, look great, even on today’s gigantic HD screens. In part, this is because of the great 2D and sprite art, which is ageless. In part, this is because of Capcom’s careful updates. No matter the reason, the end result is games that look great, if charmingly retro. And if you don’t like how they look, you can tweak the visuals a bit, with a couple of included filter options for you to try, as well as settings for screen size, the wallpaper that the gameplay shows up on, and even the position of the second Nintendo DS screen that you do occasionally have to reference and even interact with in the ZX games.

It’s a great collection, considerate of the series, and of the reason that fans love these games in the first place. In terms of overall quality, it’s also probably the strongest Mega Man Legacy Collection we have received yet. Unlike Mega Man classic or X, there are no stinkers in this package. Some games are weaker than the others (the first one has aged rather poorly, and ZX 2 is merely okay), but there’s no bad game here. They’re all at least worth playing, even today.

For Mega Man fans, just a chance to play these games on modern systems may have been enough, but Capcom went above and beyond with making this a collection worth owning, even for those who know these games like the back of their hands. For newcomers, this is an inviting package, that is accommodating of newcomers, and modern gameplay considerations, without compromising on what made the games so great to begin with. All around, Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection is a great package, and a celebration of this franchise’s heyday – now to hope for a brand new Mega Man Zero game, hopefully…

Inti Creates announced recently that along with the Switch version, Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX would be coming to PS4 and PC on September 26th as well. The action title will retail for $14.99 and feature the same 2D side-scrolling shooter action that the Azure Striker Gunvolt franchise is known for. More importantly, it will be the first time that Copen, Gunvolt’s rival, is the protagonist.

Copen’s abilities are already looking pretty cool. “Prevasion”, which will prevent any damage, and “Anthem”, which resurrects Copen and boosts his power, are just a few examples. Your partner robot Lola can also transform in the middle of a mission by gathering Kudos points. Another form for Lola has been teased with abilities yet to be revealed.

Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX is worth keeping an eye on, especially for Mega Man Zero fans. All the titles in the Game Boy Advance series, which is has its share of critical acclaim, were developed by Inti Creates. Stay tuned for more information in the coming months, and check out the trailer below.

The 3DS/Switch title will retail for $9.99 and include all DLC characters.

Inti Creates’ Blaster Master Zero has been announced for PC. It’s out on June 14th for Steam users, with a price tag of $9.99/€9.99. Check out the trailer below for a quick look at the gameplay.

Blaster Master Zero is a sequel to the original NES title from Sunsoft. It first released on the Nintendo Switch and 3DS in 2017. With a pixel art style, the game provides new environments, new features, new bosses, and much more to satisfy that retro urge.

PC players will also benefit from all of the previously released DLC characters. That means characters like Gunvolt and Ekoro from Inti Creates’ own franchises, along with WayForward’s Shantae and Yacht Club Games’ Shovel Knight. A boss rush mode was also added as a free update, which should provide even more replay value.

The release of the original gives some hope that the sequel, Blaster Master Zero 2, may eventually come to PC as well. Blaster Master Zero 2 is currently available for the Nintendo Switch and costs $9.99.

January is finally over, and that means the next round of free games is upon us. We’re of course talking about Xbox Live’s Games With Gold offer, which provides a monthly slate of free games to Xbox Live Gold subscribers. This month should be interesting, as it includes Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon (February 1st to 28th) and Super Bomberman R (February 16th to March 15th) for Xbox One.

Xbox 360 players get Assassin’s Creed Rogue (which is also available for Xbox One in remastered form) and Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. The former is available from February 1st to 15th, while the latter can be claimed from February 16th to 28th. As usual, thanks to backwards compatibility, Xbox One players can enjoy these titles as well.

It’s a pretty solid line-up of games, particularly Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, which pays tribute to the older Castlevania titles on the NES. Assassin’s Creed Rogue also offers a unique take on the series by having players assume the role of Shay Cormac, an Assassin-turned-Templar. Check out the trailer below to get a better look at next month’s free Games With Gold.

The thirst for classic styled Castlevania is real.

Inti Creates’ Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon– the bonus Bloodstained game that was developed in the vein of classic style Castlevania (as opposed to the upcoming Ritual of the Night, which will be more like Symphony of the Night)- has been downloaded over 100,000 times already, the developer revealed on Twitter recently.

This is excellent news, because it came out on May 24- so just two weeks ago- and had a botched launch. Many backers flat out did not receive their codes, and the 3DS version was not launched in Europe, while the Xbox One version was not launched at all (both versions should be available worldwide by now).

Other good news- the Switch version led downloads overwhelmingly, with 56% of all downloads coming from the Switch (the game is currently on the top of the eShop’s Bestsellers chart as well). Yes, the game was downloaded more on the Switch than it was on every other system put together. Steam was second place, with 19% of the downloads, with PS4 coming in third with 17% of the downloads. 3DS and Vita came in with 4% of the total downloads each.

This bodes well for the success of Ritual of the Night as well, when it does come out- and maybe this gives us an indication about what platforms it will do best on. Meanwhile, Curse of the Moon is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo 3DS, and PS Vita.
