Much to everyone’s surprise, it turned out that Konami are actually going to be supporting the Nintendo Switch, with a new, meaningful entry in a classic franchise- Bomberman is returning with Super Bomberman R launching on the Switch this March.
This has a lot of people excited- Bomberman used to be great back in the day, after all. But at the same time, given the state of modern Konami, and their tendency to ruin anything they touch with exploitative practices, a lot of people are also understandably afraid. What’s the catch? Will this game be free to play? Stuffed with microtransactions? Tie into a Bomberman pachinko?
As it turns out, none of that. It sounds, quite simply, as though Super Bomberman R will be a new, modern entry in the classic franchise. In a press release, Konami described the game’s battle mode, with over 50 playable stages, and the inclusion of online play with up to 8 players in a game. A new mode with a ruleset that provides a variation on the classic ‘kill all enemies,’ is also mentioned, as is the return of several fan favorite characters from the franchise.
So it sounds like, inexplicably enough, Super Bomberman R will just be a great, fun game, plain and simple, with no strings attached. Which is… odd, coming from Konami. Super Bomberman R will launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch come March.
