Rare and Nintendo's acclaimed 1996 N64 fighting game is available now for all members of the service's costlier subscription tier.

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers are going to have major things to look forward to with the imminent release of the Nintendo Switch 2, with the rollout of GameCube titles for the service set to begin when it does. In addition to that, however, Nintendo is of course continued to add titles from other platforms to the service’s library as per usual as well.

Taking to Twitter, for instance, Nintendo has revealed that it has added the 1996 Rare-developed N64 fighting game Killer Instinct Gold to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack library. Those subscribed to the costlier tier of the service will be able to play the fighter with all of the added bells and whistles of Nintendo Switch Online (such as save state functionality, for starters) starting now.

Check out the trailer below for a glimpse of Killer Instinct Gold’s gameplay, its roster of fighters, its stages, modes, and more.

The racing title originally released for the N64 in 2000, before coming to the Nintendo DS in re-released form later in 2004.

Nintendo doesn’t always grab attention with the games it adds to the Nintendo Switch Online catalog (unless they’re renowned first-party titles). However, every so often, there are notable new additions like Ridge Racer 64.

Developed by Nintendo and published by Namco for the N64 in 2000, Ridge Racer 64 was the first game in the series for a non-PlayStation console. A remake of the racing title was released for the Nintendo DS in 2004, though it was much less well-received. The former, however, still has its fans, who should be thrilled about its upcoming re-release.

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers can play the game at no additional cost. It also features four-player split-screen multiplayer, a first for the series. The game also touts multiple modes, nine courses, 25 cars, and more. Check out the trailer below for a glimpse of what it has in store and stay tuned for more updates on forthcoming titles for Nintendo Switch Online.

The acclaimed N64 platformer will be available to all Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers later this month, Nintendo has announced.

How Nintendo will choose to expand Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack as it prepares to move into its next generation of consoles remains to be seen, but until then, the company is, of course, continuing to add more games to its catalog of legacy titles. Another beloved N64 game is also coming soon, in fact.

Taking to Twitter, Nintendo announced that Rare’s acclaimed N64 platform Banjo-Tooie is coming to the service. Specifically, the game will be available for everyone subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack later this month, on October 25.

Of course, thanks to Rare and Microsoft’s efforts, the game has already been playable on modern Xbox hardware for several years, but now, its original Nintendo audience can dive back into it on their current platform of choice as well.

The original Banjo-Kazooie is also available on Switch via Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, which means Rare’s acclaimed platforming duo is now playable in its entirety on the console.

The fan-favourite Rare-developed shooter, which originally launched for N64 in 1999, will soon be available on the subscription service.

The pace at which Nintendo adds new games to Nintendo Switch Online (and the quality of the games it adds) has been inconsistent at best, though the next game that’ll be added to the service’s catalog is one that many are bound to be pleased about.

Nintendo has announced that Jet Force Gemini will be coming to Nintendo Switch Online sometime next month, though a specific release date hasn’t been announced. Jet Force Gemini was developed and published by Rare for the N64 back in 1999, and though it certainly wasn’t as prominent of a hit as some other titles made for the console by the studio – from Banjo-Kazooie to GoldenEye 007 – the third person shooter still very much something of a fan-favourite.

With Jet Force Gemini being an N64 title, it will be availably only to subscribers of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, so if you’re a member of the service’s base tier and want to dive into the game, you’re going to have to upgrade.

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers will be able to play the classic dirt bike racing game later this month.

It’s been a while since we saw Nintendo make a notable addition to Nintendo Switch Online’s N64 library of games, but that’ll be changing soon. The Japanese company has announced that the N64 dirt bike racing classic Excitebike 64 will be added to the Nintendo Switch Online library later this month, on August 30.

The game will come with its full suite of single player and multiplayer offerings, including local and online multiplayer, Exhibition Races, Time Trials, custom track creation, and more. Also included are the full Season mode with 20 tracks to master, as well as bonus features like soccer and Hill Climb. Check out the trailer below for a glimpse of what the game will have in store.

Excitebike 64 will be available on August 30 to all subscribers of the service’s higher tier, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, which gives access to N64 titles. Other N64 titles in its library that have been added this year include GoldenEye 007 and Pokemon Stadium.

Nintendo has provided assurances that it will continue to add more N64 games to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack library.

Nintendo announced last week that fan-favourite 2000 puzzle N64 game Pokemon Puzzle League would be added to the Nintendo Switch Online library soon, and now the company has confirmed the game is available. It is accessible to subscribers of the higher tier of Switch’s subscription service, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.

Meanwhile, Nintendo has also taken this opportunity to assure subscribers that there’s more new games to come in the future. “More Nintendo 64 games will be added to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Stay tuned!” the company wrote on Twitter.

For all of its faults (and it has many), Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack has undeniably kept up a healthy cadence of major new additions in the time since its launch. A number of fan-favourite N64 titles have been added to the service’s catalog over the last few months, including the likes of Paper Mario, Banjo-Kazooie, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, F-Zero, Mario Golf, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, and Pokemon Snap.

Recent reports have heavily suggested that a GoldenEye remaster is in the work, and this trademark renewal is here to pour more oil on that fire.

Trademark filings and renewals are hardly every concrete signs of the things to come, but when you’re talking about games that have already been in the rumour mill for sometime, those filings can seem more significant. We might have another one of those here.

Recently, the trademark for GoldenEye was extended, to use the name for “downloadable game software”. Why is that significant for a game that released for than two and a half decades ago? Well, earlier this year, Xbox Achievement listings for GoldenEye 007 were spotted online, giving way to multiple leaks and rumours claiming that a remastered version of the game is in development.

When it will be announced, if it is indeed real, remains to be seen. Leaks have claimed that GoldenEye 007’s remaster should be announced in the near future– but it hasn’t happened until now, so for now, all we can do is wait and watch.

With recent developments having led to speculation regarding a possible upcoming remaster of the N64 shooter, it seems official news might be on the way soon.

GoldenEye 007 stands as one of the best and most fiercely beloved first person shooters to date, and there’s been no shortage of demand for the game to be playable on modern platforms in some fashion- which has been complicated for multiple reasons. While many have been hoping of late that the addition of N64 games to Nintendo Switch Online’s catalog might change things, it seems hope might arrive in some other form.

According to journalist Jeff Grubb on a recent episode on his Giant Bomb show GrubbSnax (via VGC), a GoldenEye 007 remaster is “coming pretty soon” and is going to be announced by Microsoft in the “next couple of weeks”.

This isn’t the first time there’s been speculation of GoldenEye coming back in some fashion in recent weeks. Last month, an Xbox Achievements listing hinted at an upcoming port of the shooter, while leaks have also hinted that an announcement could be coming soon.

Given how complication the situation has been for this game in particular, with Nintendo, Microsoft, and MGM each having ownership, it’ll be quite the surprise for longtime fans to see the game finally make a return. Whether or not that actually ends up happening remains to be seen.

A listing of Xbox Achievements for the shooter recently surfaced online, sparking speculation of a port potentially coming soon.

It seems the discussions of a port of the classic Nintendo 64 shooter GoldenEye 007 are once again back in talks among the gaming community, as TrueAchievements has posted achievements for the original Goldeneye 007, a game which does not exist on Xbox platforms as of now, sparking speculation of a possible port.

First posted and pointed out by Twitter user Wario64, the site showcases all the possible achievements which can be won while playing the game. The achievements are based on finishing the game on any difficulty and doing certain tasks on various difficulties, which is all pretty standard.

This is a very interesting development, of course, as the game has never left the Nintendo 64 platform, mostly because of licensing issues between the original developer Rare, publisher Nintendo, and MGM. This listing might suggest that the licensing issue has been sorted, but since the original game was exclusively on Nintendo 64, it will be interesting to see if the game will be a multiplatform release, given the Xbox Achievements listing hints at an Xbox release only.

The closest we’ve seen of a possible port for GoldenEye 007 was leaked gameplay of a canceled Xbox Live port of the game, which was scrapped early on, being posted on user Graslu00’s YouTube channel (you can check that out below). Only time will tell if this Achievements listing holds true, as the achievement points that both the single-player and multiplayer portion of the game is being retained.

The original Paper Mario, which released for the N64 in 2001, will be added to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass library next week.

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack went live a couple of months ago, and though the expanded subscription service has seen its fair share of (justified) criticism since then for a variety of reasons, Nintendo seems committed to increasing its value. Having already confirmed upon its reveal that they’d be adding more games to its catalog post-launch, they’ve now revealed the first game to be making that jump- and it’s a good one.

The original Paper Mario will be added to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack catalog on December 10. The RPG, developed by Intelligent Systems, launched for the N64 back in 2001 (2000 in Japan), and is widely considered to be one of the best games of its time, if not ever. The Switch has its own Paper Mario game, of course, with Paper Mario: The Origami King, but fans who’ve been starved for a more traditional Paper Mario experience (and there’s no shortage of such people) will be glad about this announcement. Check out its announcement trailer below.

A few weeks ago, a datamining leak suggested that a number of Sega Genesis and N64 games were planned to be added to the Expansion Pack lineup in the coming weeks and months- subscribers will be hoping they’ll be added at a steady clip going forward, now that Paper Mario has kicked things off.

Meanwhile, leaks have also repeatedly claimed that Game Boy and Game Boy Color games are also eventually going to be added to the service. Read more on that through here.
