GoldenEye 007 stands as one of the best and most fiercely beloved first person shooters to date, and there’s been no shortage of demand for the game to be playable on modern platforms in some fashion- which has been complicated for multiple reasons. While many have been hoping of late that the addition of N64 games to Nintendo Switch Online’s catalog might change things, it seems hope might arrive in some other form.
According to journalist Jeff Grubb on a recent episode on his Giant Bomb show GrubbSnax (via VGC), a GoldenEye 007 remaster is “coming pretty soon” and is going to be announced by Microsoft in the “next couple of weeks”.
This isn’t the first time there’s been speculation of GoldenEye coming back in some fashion in recent weeks. Last month, an Xbox Achievements listing hinted at an upcoming port of the shooter, while leaks have also hinted that an announcement could be coming soon.
Given how complication the situation has been for this game in particular, with Nintendo, Microsoft, and MGM each having ownership, it’ll be quite the surprise for longtime fans to see the game finally make a return. Whether or not that actually ends up happening remains to be seen.
