The Outer Worlds Will Have a Huge Day 1 Update on Both Xbox One and PS4

Physical purchasers are going to have to download huge updates.

The Outer Worlds launches a week from now, and brings with it the promise of a focused, choice-driven, narrative-heavy RPG. As is the case with Obsidian’s games, it’s focusing more on quality over quantity, which means you shouldn’t expect an absolutely massive title– which is reflected in its file size, which stands at roughly 37 GB.

However, though the game’s base size isn’t too big, it will be receiving a pretty hefty day 1 update on both the Xbox One and the PS4, with the former’s update being a particular large one. Obsidian recently confirmed on an update on their forums that on the PS4, The Outer Worlds will have an 18 GB day 1 patch, while on the Xbox One, that patch will be roughly 38 GB, which is the same size as the game itself.

Thankfully, if you’re purchasing the game digitally, the patch will already be included when you pre-load the game. But if you’re getting the game’s physical release, you’re going to have to download these manually- Xbox One players will essentially have to download the game twice.

Manwhile, recently, there was some confusion about whether or not The Outer Worlds will be enhanced on the PS4 Pro. Though Private Division gave a statement saying that it wouldn’t be, they later provided clarification stating that the RPG will be enhanced on both, the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X.

The Outer Worlds is out on October 25 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, with a Switch version also in the pipeline. Check out the game’s opening 20 minutes through here.
