For single player lovers who are looking forward to Marvel’s Avengers but are worried it might get caught in multiplayer trappings, take heart. The game is very much going to have co-op side to it, but we’ve already been told by the developers that nearly everything in the game can be played solo. In fact, you don’t even have to be online if you want to play the game.
In a Q&A with the developers posted online by the official Twitter page for the game, the developers confirmed that you can play the entire game offline if you wish to do so.
“You can,” said the devs when the question was asked (transcribed over at ResetEra). “One of the things that’s important to us is not only can you assemble with up to four players online and play with your friends, but you can also play the entire campaign in a single player way offline if you want to.”
The developers also re-iterated something they have been saying since the game’s reveal- this is very much a story-centric experience. According to the developer, the game has “a huge spine of a single player cinematic led story filled with action and drama”, though players can “branch off” and do multiplayer missions co-operatively if they want.
“One of the things that unites Crystal and Marvel is our love of stories and storytelling,” said Bill Rosemann, vice president and creative director of Marvel Games. “There is a huge spine of a single player cinematic led story filled with action and drama. But along the way you can branch off and do multiplayer and go on special missions, and even those missions connect back to the story.”
Marvel’s Avengers is out on May 15, 2020 for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. Take a look at its E3 2019 debut through here.
