Marvel’s Avengers Will be Supported for “Years to Come,” Crystal Dynamics Reiterates

"We have been working on a lot of things," says the developer.

Marvel’s Avengers hasn’t had the kind of start that Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics would have been hoping for. On top of a poor launch, the game’s first few months have been defined by lack of significant updates and content drops, leading to major financial losses for the publisher and low player counts for the game. The coming week, however, will see Crystal Dynamics rolling out major new update for the game, which will not only add Hawkeye as a playable character, but will also introduce several other gameplay additions, including new customizable H.A.R.M. Room Challenges, a campaign replay option, and an attempt to rebalance progression.

Publishers and developers have often taken the “cut-and-run” approach with service games that don’t often get off to a good start, but it doesn’t seem like that’s part of Crystal Dynamics’ immediate plans. Speaking during a recent developer stream, the developer reiterated in the Twitch stream’s chat that it plans on supporting the game “for years to come” and that it’s working on a number of things that it’s excited to share in the future.

“Rest assured we’re committed to the future of Marvel’s Avengers for years to come, and have been working on a whole lot of things, which we’re excited to reveal,” said the developer (spotted by MP1st).

Following the Hawkeye DLC, a Spider-Man DLC has also been confirmed, who will be the first (and apparently the only) PlayStation-exclusive DLC character for the game.

Marvel’s Avengers is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. March 18 will also see the game’s launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
