Indie JRPG Cris Tales will be free to download on the Epic Games Store starting from February 24th, it has been confirmed.

The Epic Games Store has recently revealed its next weekly free game starting from February 24th up until March 3rd, which is now confirmed to be Cris Tales. This Modus Games-published title will be replacing the currently free-to-download co-op adventure Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.

Cris Tales is an indie JRPG that’s billed as a love-letter to fans of the genre, all rendered with a distinct and recognizable cartoony art-style. It features an extensive time-spanning story featuring heavy focus on choice and consequence mechanics. The combat is, unsurprisingly, turn-based and the game currently sits at a rating of 74 on Metacritic.

The Epic Games Store has given out a ton of free games during the last year, estimated to be worth over $2,190. It’s fair to say that this strategy has paid in spades, and the Epic Games Store has now garnered an impressive userbase of 194 million and growing.

Cris Tales will release on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch on July 20th.

Developers Dreams Incorporated and Syck and publisher Modus Games have released the opening cinematic for Cris Tales, a role-playing game that pays tribute to classic Japanese role-playing franchises like Square Enix’s Final Fantasy and Secret of Mana.

The opening cinematic, which is exceptionally stylish, shows of Cris Tales‘ incredible art design, much of what appears to be the game’s main cast, and several of their abilities, all while looking incredibly gorgeous. Luckily, the game’s incredible art isn’t limited to its opening. Thanks to previous trailers that provided an overview of the game and showed off some of its gameplay, we know that the game looks just like its opening cinematic, which is pretty amazing.

Cris Tales will also feature time manipulation. Essentially, protagonist Crisbell has the ability to see the past, present, and future at any time, allowing her to change events in both the past and future, allowing her to alter reality. She can also use this skill in combat ti exploit or create weaknesses in enemies. The game also features the Synchro System, allowing party members to combine their skills in combat.

Cris Tales will release on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch on July 20th. It will retail for $39.99 at launch. A demo is now available for those looking to try the game.

Time-traveling RPG Cris Tales is out on July 20th according to a new trailer by Modus Games. Developed by SYCK and Dreams Uncorporated, the title sees Crisbell gaining the power of a Time Mage to see the past, present and future at once. Along with several allies, she must use this to save the world from the evil Empress.

Along with moving between different time periods to make different story decisions, Crisbell’s powers can also be used in combat for beneficial effects. For example, you could make certain foes younger and thus easier to defeat. The game’s hand-drawn 2D aesthetic also continues to look good, as seen in the latest trailer.

Cris Tales is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, Stadia, PC and Nintendo Switch. It will retail for $39.99 at launch. A free demo is currently available to play so it might be worth checking out to get a feel for the game.

The 15 minute overview video also shows the results of altering past and future events.

Cris Tales from SYCK and Dreams Incorporated may have been delayed to next year but it’s shaping up to be a gorgeous role-playing game. In a new 15 minute extended gameplay overview, the developers talk about the various mechanics in the game. Check it out below.

Essentially, protagonist Crisbell has the ability to see the past, present and future at any given time. This can be used to change events in the past or future, influencing circumstances as she sees fit (though these decisions are never easy). In combat, this results in different benefits like, say, pouring water on an enemy’s shield and then forwarding time to make it rust and thus break with attacks.

The gameplay overview also showcases the Synchro system wherein various team members can combine their skills in combat. It’s a good way to get some additional damage and buffs in. Cris Tales is currently in development for Xbox One, PS4, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, Stadia and Xbox Series X/S and will release in early 2021.

The development team needs more time for polish.

Cris Tales has made quite the impression over the past several year or so, especially its gorgeous visuals. While the RPG was slated to release next month for current and next-gen consoles, it appears that fans will have to wait slightly longer. Developers Dreams Incorporated and SYCK Team, along with publisher Modus Games, have announced a delay for the game into early 2021.

CEO Carlos Rocha Silva stated that, “We are a very small video game development studio located in the city of Bucaramanga, Colombia. Cris Tales is the biggest project we have ever worked on, and we want to get it right. As you probably know, most areas and people in the game must be created at least three times, if not more to show the different past, present and futures.

“So, in a way, it’s like developing three different video games at the same time. Three video games that must be impeccable so that we can deliver all the magic we have in our soul to all of you. We want to make sure to earn all the love you’ve all shown in our events, demos, previews and so much more.”

Following the demo’s release on consoles, the developer also wants to address feedback and take more time to polish the title. Silva announced that the developer would have an AMA on Reddit tomorrow at 12 PM PT to address any questions that fans could have. There may even be a “sneak peek at some more of what we’ve been working on.”

To help matters a bit, a new gameplay trailer has been released. It showcases the various playable characters along with some new areas. Given the premise of exploring several different timelines at once, having more time to polish the experience is unsurprising.

Cris Tales is currently in development for PS4, PS5, PC, Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

Amid all the big new reveals at last year’s E3, Cris Tales from Dreams Uncorporated and SYCK stood out. To that end, a new 22 minute alpha gameplay spotlight has been released, showcasing more of the story and combat.

Along with protagonist Crisbell and Christopher, we see the mage Willhelm also joining the battle. As players explore different environments, they’ll run into all kinds of foes like wolves and watery slimes. Using the Time Crystal in different scenarios will allow players to exploit different weaknesses.

All of this is in a bid to stop the Time Empress from rewriting the world’s future. Cris Tales is currently slated to release in 2020. Along with Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch, it will also release for Google Stadia. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.

Even more high profile role-playing titles are coming in the next few years - check them out here.

Continuing on from our previous list, we’re here to discuss even more awesome role-playing games that will be releasing in 2020 and beyond. So without further ado, let’s take a look.

Baldur’s Gate 3

In what’s essentially a dream pairing, Divinity: Original Sin developer Larian Studios will be working on the next Baldur’s Gate. Baldur’s Gate as a series is renowned for its RPG mechanics, character building and choices (not to mention elevating BioWare) so the fit couldn’t be any more perfect. Not a lot has been revealed about Baldur’s Gate 3 aside from a Lich infestation that must be halted but it’s Larian’s biggest game yet and may release by 2021 on Google Stadia and PC.

A number of interesting games debuted this past week at E3 - take a look at 30 here.

Every year, the Electronic Entertainment Expo has been the place for publishers to hype up their upcoming releases to ludicrous levels. However, it’s also the place for new games, whether they’re new sequels in hallowed franchises or original IP with spell-binding concepts. Let’s take a look at the top 30 biggest new games from E3 2019.

Outriders

Did you think that Marvel’s Avengers was the only game that would be revealed with no gameplay and fancy cinematics? Think again! People Can Fly finally debuted Outriders, its co-op shooter taking place on a planet with endless dangers. You’ll have a large arsenal of weapons and “powerful gunplay” but there’s not really much else to go off of. It’s out in Summer 2020 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC for what it’s worth but until then, we play the waiting game.
