Saber Interactive and Focus are at the helm again, promising a new campaign with "bigger battles, more action and more enemies to purge."

Games Workshop has announced that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 is officially in development. Developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment (both responsible for Space Marine 2), it promises “bigger battles, more action and more enemies to purge.”

Players can look forward to an all-new campaign and new multiplayer modes. Details on the setting, factions and mechanics are “tightly under wraps” for now, and there’s no release date (though it’s “likely years away”). The platforms also remain a mystery. Based on the key art, at least Captain Titus is returning.

However, the press release says players can look forward to “innovations that will redefine the standards of third-person action games.” “We view this as an opportunity to create a true love letter to the Warhammer 40,000 universe.”

The companies will reveal more information when they can, so stay tuned. In the meantime, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out our review for the base game, which has over six million players.

Since its launch, the third-person shooter has received new multiplayer maps, Operations, weapons, and other features. Patch 7.0 is coming up but Steam players can try it out now courtesy of a Public Test Server. Head here for more details.

CEO Kevin Rountree spoke about the company exercising caution as it looks for the next game to match Space Marine 2's success.

Games Workshop, the company behind the Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 universes, is looking to capitalize on the success of last year’s Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. In its latest earnings reports, CEO Kevin Rountree credited Space Marine 2, along with action racing title Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks for the company’s video game-related royalties.

Rountree acknowledges that the history of Warhammer 40,000 video games is spotty, and that the company making money off releases like Space Marine 2 and Speed Freeks isn’t something it can take for granted. Rountree goes on to talk about how, while remaining cautious when it comes to future royalties, the company is now on the lookout for its next big hit.

“We recognize that successes like these for Warhammer are not a given in the world of video games. Clearly we are looking for the next one. We remain cautious when forecasting royalty income,” said Rountree in the investor report.

Developed by World War Z studio Saber Interactive, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a single-player action-adventure game that puts players in the shoes of Ultramarine captain Demetrian Titus. After having spent quite a bit of time with the Death Watch squad as punishment for the events of the original Space Marine, Titus finds himself once more a member of the Ultramarines as he gets ready to stop a Tyranid invasion, and eventually uncovers a greater conspiracy by the forces of Chaos.

Space Marine 2 was released back in September 2024, and quickly became a massive hit. The game’s three-day early access release itself managed to get more than 134,000 concurrent players, and on full release, the game quickly shot up the sales chart. According to a report from November, more than 5 million players had played Space Marine 2. By the end of the year, Space Marine 2 was also named as one of the best-selling titles on Steam.

Since its release, the game has gotten continued support in the form of updates that brought balance changes, bug fixes and more quality-of-life features. They also added new content in the form of fresh PvP maps and missions for the co-op Operations mode. More recently, the game received support PS5 Pro enhancements, as well as support for new technologies like DLSS 3 and FSR 3.

As part of the DLC, PowerWash Simulator players can now help clean out several vehicles and weapons for the Imperium.

PowerWash Simulator‘s latest DLC, the Warhammer 40,000 Special Pack, is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch, and is priced at $7.99. Check out the trailer celebrating its release below.

The Warhammer 40,000 collaboration DLC throws PowerWash Simulator players into the shoes of a member of the Adeptus Mechanicus, tasked with performing the ultimate purification protocol and cleaning several pieces of Imperium gear.

Along with cleaning several Imperial vehicles and machines, the player will also quench their thirst for knowledge by finding field reports from the frontlines. To help them with this task, the player is equipped with a custom MKII Aqua-Santica Arquebus power washer.

As part of the new DLC, players will be able to clean a host of Imperial machines and vehicles, including an Ultramarines Land Raider, a Dark Angels Redemptor Dreadnought, an Astra Militarum Rogal Dorn Tank, a House Hawkshroud Imperial Knight, and a Blood Angels Thunderhawk.

The DLC, announced quite some time ago, finally has a release date along with a new trailer.

After a long wait, PowerWash Simulator developer FuturLab has finally announced the release date for its upcoming collaboration with Games Workshop for a DLC about Warhammer 40,000 with a new trailer. The DLC will be coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch on February 27, and will be priced at $7.99. Check out the trailer below.

Rather than throwing in some Warhammer 40,000-inspired levels into PowerWash Simulator and calling it a day, the DLC instead goes quite in-depth. Players are put into the shoes of a member of the Adeptus Mechanicus and equipped with a custom MKII Aqua-Santica Arquebus power washer.

The DLC will feature a host of different objects and vehicles from Warhammer 40,000 that players will be tasked with cleaning up, including an Ultramarines Land Raider, a Dark Angels Deathwing Redemptor Dreadnought, the Astra Militarum Rogal Dorn Tank, a House Hawkshroud Imperial Knight, and a Blood Angels Thunderhawk.

While all of the new cleaning targets revolve around the Imperium and its various sub-factions, the variety available, ranging from a Land Raider to an Imperial Knight, is quite impressive.

PowerWash Simulator is getting yet another crossover DLC, this time around tying up with Games Workshop to bring Warhammer 40,000 to the game.

Developer FuturLab is teaming up with Games Workshop to bring a new Warhammer 40,000-related DLC to PowerWash Simulator. While not much in the way of details have been revealed yet, we got a small teaser trailer during the Warhammer Skulls event announcing the crossover.

Considering the breadth of the Warhammer 40,000 setting, the possibilities are almost endless for the types of scenarios PowerWash Simulator players can find themselves in. We’ll likely see some of the most iconic Warhammer 40,000 things in the game, such as a Space Marine’s armour, or larger vehicles like a Leman Russ tank.

At this point, PowerWash Simulator is no stranger to having strange crossover DLC related to other properties. Earlier this month, FuturLab announced that a series of levels based on SpongeBob SquarePants would be making their way to the game in a DLC slated for summer.

Previously, the game has also seen DLC based on other games, including Final Fantasy 7 and the classic Tomb Raider games. April also saw the release of the Muckingham Files update for PowerWash Simulator which revolved around improvements to the core game and its story.

The upcoming Warhammer Skulls event will feature discounts on games based on Warhammer, and the reveal of new content and upcoming games.

Games Workshop has announced that its annual celebration of Warhammer—the Warhammer Skulls event—is returning for its seventh year. Slated for May 25, Warhammer fans can tune in to Warhammer Skulls livestream hosted by actor Rahul Kohli on Twitch.

Alongside featuring discounted pricing on games based on various Warhammer IPs, Warhammer Skulls will also feature new details on games like Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. We can also undoubtedly expect details on new content coming to games already out, like Total War: Warhammer 3 and Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.

Games across multiple platforms will be getting discounts of up to 80%, and we’ll also be seeing new content coming to games across all platforms. Kicking things of for Warhammer Skulls is the Warhammer 40,000 in-game event currently taking place in World of Tanks: Modern Armor right now.

The next game based on Warhammer slated to come out is old-school self-proclaimed boomer shooter Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, set for release on May 23. There is also an RPG in the works—Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader—which doesn’t yet have a release date.

Games Workshop currently lists Total War: Warhammer 3, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide and Lost Crusade for release this year.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 was one of the biggest announcements at The Game Awards 2021, following up on Relic Entertainment’s beloved 2011 title. However, the wait may be longer than anticipated. Games Workshop’s half-year results are in with Total War: Warhammer 3, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide and Lost Crusade listed for release in 2022.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 isn’t mentioned for release this year. Regarding the title, the company stated that, “Deals have been announced to launch a major online game set in the Age of Sigmar universe as well as Space Marine 2. We continue to search for the right long term partners to exploit other IP opportunities: we have some further exciting plans in development.”

It could possibly release next year instead but without any details on the current development state, it’s hard to predict. That the COVID-19 pandemic isn’t ending anytime soon and could still potentially delay future titles also doesn’t help. Regardless, other Warhammer games are still slated for this year so fans should be able to get their fix.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is being developed for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC by Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment. Stay tuned for potential new details in the coming months.

Games Workshop’s farming out of the bits and pieces of their massive Warhammer universe has let to a lot of games, some pretty forgettable, and some like Total Warhammer which just fit together like they were made for each other. The next one up to try their hand at the IP is French studio Eko Software, with publisher Bigben, to create the first action RPG set in the Warhammer fantasy world, Warhammer: Chaosbane.

Putting the player into the middle of a world devastated by long and hard fought wars against Chaos, and left to themselves to survive as a Human, High Elf, Wood Elf or Dwarf, this adaption will leverage the studio’s experience with hack ’n slash to hopefully, come out the other side as one of the remembered Warhammer games.

The game is currently under development for unspecified consoles (no word on if that includes Switch) and PC.

For now, it’s good. It might shine one day.

It’s an interesting thing to watch when a license opens itself up, especially one as storied and if we’re being honest, intimidating and Tolkienesque from a mythos standpoint as Warhammer. Once Games Workshop focused on single major partners for larger titles, now they’re using a scattershot approach, allowing all who want to the ability to make something with this classic property.

Luckily, one of those shots caught Bandai Namco and Behaviour Interactive. While the deeply entrenched lore is in full effect for the fan, it’s easy enough to get into regardless. Four factions from the universe are represented, the Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, Orks and Eldar, with subclasses within those. Perhaps they become more distinct once you’re deep into the upgrade tree I’ll touch on later, but my playtime with each left them all feeling and controlling quite similar.

Eternal Crusade has bigger systems at play here, such as territory control on a divided map, though that doesn’t feel quite fleshed out. You can zoom around and have a peek at who controls a sector and who might be close to capturing it, but as of now you can’t choose to engage within a specific location. Rather you can join a few different game modes, the majority of which come down to territory control and the box standard horde mode.

"Eternal Crusade has bigger systems at play here."

Eternal Crusade is trying to play the same game that Star Wars Battlefront played. While it’s going to take some time to get all those promised features in such as the map I mentioned above to truly make it feel grand in scale, getting your boots on the ground and becoming part of the sprawling 30 on 30 battles.

While the control immediately recalled Gears of War for me, it quickly became apparent that Eternal Crusade was going for a very different kind of game flow. Gunplay feels good and your sidearm, should your class have one, has the interesting trade off of automatic aiming for the loss of power. Melee and gunplay tie right into each other and you’ll usually find encounters start with trading shots only to quickly come to close combat. Going toe to toe with one of the iconic chainsaw swords like this calls upon a rock paper scissors system of light attack, heavy attack and parry that is both satisfying to execute and easy to understand.

The maps for these skirmishes are utterly massive, yet designed in a very layered, interesting way that can offer unique approaches. Perhaps you’re one of the classes with a jetpack that will let you take the high ground the map affords and zip away before you’re spotted. Or you’ll bring your tank around back to distract while the rest of the squad moves on a capture point. Should you need to get to a place on the other end of the map right away it’s simple to select a new spawn point. Class diversity and map polish is probably the strongest element to the game. Neither of them quite as mirror shined as Overwatch, but the grand scale excuses that to a degree.

"The maps for these skirmishes are utterly massive, yet designed in a very layered, interesting way that can offer unique approaches."

While the exact specifics do vary a bit, the PvP game modes all have a central theme of point control. Perhaps you’ll be able to turn capture points back and forth as you fight for a point total, or perhaps you’ll fight for every inch as another team tries to keep you from taking a fortress. It’s enough variety in the moment to moment gameplay, and serves the universe purpose of giving some meaning to these battles that feels less gamey than a straight death-match.

While it would hang once or twice during loading, the huge battles ran consistently on my PC once I got in, keeping the frame rate steady, and showing off some great textures and weather effects with my GTX 1060. I was easily running on Ultra setting but fiddling with the graphics options should easily scale it back to lesser machines. The game also allows for Xinput controller support, though using it could put you at a disadvantage.

Eternal Crusade is easy enough to get into without any base understanding of the 40K universe, but it also doesn’t make it an easy entry point. Not a lot of room for narrative in a war zone. No room for tutorials either. Luckily players are able to practice to their hearts content within a special Garrison map without anybody shooting at them. Having this safe space to come to grips with the abilities of different classes and the controls doesn’t make the almost complete lack of tutorial OK necessarily. Just a little easier to swallow.

"Eternal Crusade is easy enough to get into without any base understanding of the 40K universe, but it also doesn’t make it an easy entry point."

The upgrade system is nothing new in competitive shooters, and Warhammer has quite the expansive one as it has roots in tabletop RPGs. But while Call of Duty would offer new guns and perks as you level up, they were more side-grades than actual upgrades. There would always be a trade off in the name of balancing and not wrecking new players. Warhammer directly goes for classic RPG inspired upgrades like decreasing stamina cool down. It’s too early to say if these upgrades will cripple the balance of the Eternal Crusade battlefields, but it’s one of my biggest concerns.

As with many games in this style, Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade is going to constantly evolve from both actual developer changes and into what the community makes of it. Should the upgrades prove less game-breaking than I think they are, and a strong player base builds around this game, then we’ve got a very competent massively multiplayer third person shooter on the market. Little bit of a learning curve to cross and it might not be the best entry point into the world of Warhammer, but that isn’t really a deal breaker either. For now, it’s good. It might shine one day.
