The studio is now owned by "some" of its founders and team members. Two "exciting titles" are also "currently in progress."

After eight years of Sega’s ownership, Amplitude Studios has announced it’s going independent once more. A Steam Community post confirmed that “some of” the founders and team members now own the studio. Though it’s separate from Sega, it’s parting on “good terms” and wishes the publisher “the best for all their future projects.”

Founder Romain de Waubert de Genlis stated, “Our studio is backed by strong and meaningful franchises, and our team is committed to creating the best games possible. With our extensive experience in strategy game development and two exciting titles currently in progress, we are confident in our ability to deliver outstanding experience to players.

“This decision allows us to be more agile in our approach while continuing to shape the vision that has been ours from the very beginning, empowering us to push boundaries and be closer than ever to our community.”

As for what’s next, the studio’s 4X strategy title, Humankind, is receiving a new patch, with more details coming next week. It will also discuss the future at its annual Amplified event in January 2025. Time will tell if there’s any news for the Endless franchise beyond further updates for Endless Dungeon.

A similar situation occurred earlier this year when Company of Heroes and Warhammer: Dawn of War developer Relic Entertainment split from Sega (leading to layoffs). Both efforts, alongside the cancellation of Creative Assembly’s HYENAS, are part of a restructuring of its European studios. It remains to be seen if Amplitude will fundamentally change after becoming independent, so stay tuned.

Publisher Sega has announced that the release of turn-based strategy game Humankind on consoles has been delayed.

Publisher Sega and developers Amplitude Studios and Aspyr have announced that the PC release for turn-based strategy game Humankind is being delayed. While no new release date has been given, those who already pre-ordered the game on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X/S will be getting refunds.

“We apologise for the inconvenience but rest assured that Sega Europe, Amplitude Studios and Aspyr are working hard to bring the best possible Humankind experience to console players,” says the announcement. “We can’t give a timeframe on a new release date right now, but as soon as we are in a position to do so, we will let everyone know and we thank the community for their continued support and understanding.”

Originally released on PC last year, Humankind has since gotten a number of updates and DLC. The newest expansion for the game, Together We Rule, introduces a series of new gameplay elements to the game, such as Congress, Embassy, Agents, Diplomatic Affinity, and new cultures, wonders, and narrative events.

Together We Fall is set to hit Humankind in Fall 2022.

Sega and Amplitude have announced the first major expansion for Humankind, will feature new options for diplomacy.

Publisher Sega and developer Amplitude Studios have announced the first major expansion for turn-based strategy game Humankind. Titled Together We Rule, the expansion will introduce new features to Humankind. Check out the announcement trailer below.

The 4K strategy title has received a new expansion, and has been confirmed for a launch on PlayStation and Xbox this November.

Amplitude Studio and Sega’s 4X strategy title Humankind launched for PC nearly a year ago, bringing its own take on the style of gameplay that has been popularized by Creative Assembly’s Civilization games. Though it wasn’t the biggest release of the year by any stretch of the imagination, it was definitely a game worth playing- and soon, many more people will be able to dive into its offerings.

At Summer Game Fest Kickoff Live, it was announced that Humankind will be coming to PlayStation and Xbox consoles later this year, on November 4. As those who’ve played Civilization on consoles will tell you, this is a genre that can work surprisingly well when played with a gamepad, so there’s definitely reason to be excited.

Meanwhile, Humankind’s second expansion, Cultures of Latin America, is also out now, along with a new free update call the Bolivar Patch. The expansion adds new music tracks, narrative events, independent people, and six new cultures and wonders each.

Check out both new trailers for Humankind below.

Amplitude Studios' Humankind ranked fourth among the best-selling titles for the month and is the fifth best-selling PC game of 2021.

Much like the dominance of the Nintendo Switch and PS5 in the United States, EA’s Madden NFL series continues to set records. Madden NFL 22 launched in August and as per The NPD Group’s data (via ResetEra), it was the best-selling title for the month and the fourth best-selling game year-to-date. This also marks the 22nd consecutive year that a Madden NFL title has topped the sales charts in its debut month.

Thanks to the launch of its Director’s Cut on PS4 and PS5, Ghost of Tsushima became the second best-selling title in August. Considering it was at 110th place in July, this is a pretty big uptick. Amplitude Studios’ Humankind also did very well, ranking fourth in the overall best-selling titles for the month and first among the tracked PC titles. Year-to-date, it’s currently the fifth best-selling PC title of 2021.

Check out the full top 20 best-selling games in the United States for August below. September’s sales should be interesting following the release of NBA 2K22, Deathloop and Tales of Arise so stay tuned.

Amplitude Studios' latest 4X strategy title is now available for PC and Xbox Game Pass, and promises a staggering amount of customization.

Nearly two years after its initial announcement, Amplitude Studios’ Humankind is out now for PC via Steam and Xbox Game Pass. A launch trailer has been released to celebrate the occasion and cleverly satirizes the 1964 Moon landing. The premise is clear though – be the first to make history.

Much like its Endless Legend and Endless Space series, Humankind is a 4X-style turn-based strategy game. Where it differs is in the civilizations you create, After choosing a base type, each new era allows for choosing bonuses (and drawbacks) from ten other civilizations. The potential combinations are staggering with Amplitude estimating over 1.5 million civilizations.

Achieving success through art, science, technology, diplomacy and so on is only the first step though. Humankind also promises a robust late game with new systems like railway connections and cargo planes, advanced technologies and national projects to delve into. Stay tuned for more details on the title including further updates and potential new content in the coming days.

The next wave of Xbox Game Pass titles for August 2021 has been revealed, led by Amplitude Studios’ Humankind being available for PC subscribers later today. Titles like Need for Speed Heat, Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will also be playable through the cloud for EA Play and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers.
The first is Recompile which will be available for consoles, PC and the cloud on August 19th.
On August 25th, the eagerly awaited Psychonauts 2 will be available at last with Raz embarking on a brand new adventure through all kinds of mind-scapes. Perhaps the most unexpected announcement is that Myst, a remake of the classic adventure game which first released for Oculus Quest in December 2020, will also be available for consoles, PC and the cloud on Xbox Game Pass. It will also release for PC via Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store.

As players venture deeper into the end-game, they'll encounter new systems in the Industrial and Contemporary eras that shake up gameplay.

Anyone who’s played a Civilization-style game will tell you that the late game is often as important, if not more so, than the beginning or middle. Amplitude Studios’ Humankind is no different and in a new video, the development team talks about how it’s introducing new systems in the Industrial and Contemporary eras while disrupting older ones to provide new challenges.

Some of those new systems include railway connections and cargo planes which, on top of leveraging trade, can also be used to make armies more mobile. Various civilizations can also invest in different things depending on their specializations. Those good with Research can benefit from advanced technologies for strong gains in fame.

Industry-focused civilizations can invest in national projects like the space program, which are bigger than Cultural Wonders and have multiple stages (each providing fame and bonuses, like satellite launches providing more vision). As gunpowder is introduced, battles shift from melee to ranged weapons as cover and high ground become more important. Eventually, artillery, aircraft and tanks will also come in to shift the warfare meta even more.

Humankind is out on August 17th for PC and launches day one on Xbox Game Pass. For more details on its scope and scale, check out the last trailer here.

The massive scale of the upcoming 4X strategy title is outlined in a new trailer. It's out on August 17th for PC and also launching on Xbox Game Pass.

Amplitude Studios’ Humankind is coming to Xbox Game Pass for PC when it launches next week. To provide a sense of the 4X title’s scale, the developer has released a new trailer outlining all of the different cultures, civilizations, units and much more that players can become embroiled with. Check it out below.

Humankind plays a lot like Sid Meier’s Civilization series. You take a civilization base and guide it through several eras of history, developing your cities and new technology to win through diplomacy, overwhelming military might or science. The key hook here is that each era lets you choose from ten types of civilizations for various bonuses and penalties, leading to a myriad of randomly created civilizations throughout one’s playthrough.

The result is, as the trailer teases, more than 1.5 million potential civilizations. Of course, you also have a total of 129 different units, 10 different biomes for your world map, 45 animal species, 93 different technologies, and tons of customization for your avatar. Humankind is out on August 17th for PC so stay tuned for more details in the coming days.
