Developed in collaboration with One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda, One Piece Odyssey is part of the official One Piece canon, and begins during protagonist Monkey D. Luffy and his crew of Straw Hat Pirates’ voyage across the New World, when a storm shipwrecks them on a tropical island, where a new journey awaits them. In addition to the base game, the Switch release – which is the game’s Deluxe Edition – also includes the Reunion of Memories DLC. 

One Piece Odyssey is also available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PC. 

The game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch in the form of a Deluxe Edition, which means that on top of the base experience, it will also include the Reunion of Memories DLC, which launched in May last year. The expansion adds roughly an additional 5-6 hours of play time to the experience, depending on how extensively you choose to engage with its content offerings.

Reunion of Memories was announced back in April. Its content and storyline will be unlocked once players have finished the main storyline in One Piece Odyssey. The DLC revolves around the Straw Hat Crew revisiting older One Piece story arcs, including beloved arcs like Alabasta.

Originally released back in January, One Piece Odyssey saw some success on launch, managing to sell over 62,000 copies in Japan in its opening week. The game revolves around the Straw Hat Crew stumbling into the island of Waford where the crew loses its abilities and is forced to embark on an epic journey through old memories.

One Piece Odyssey also has a demo that players can try out before buying the game, which features around 1 to 2 hours of content.

The Reunion of Memories DLC for One Piece Odyssey will be coming to PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Content for the new DLC will be unlocked once players complete the main storyline in One Piece Odyssey. The DLC will have the Straw Hat Crew revisiting beloved One Piece story arcs like Alabasta.

One Piece Odyssey was originally released back in January. The game saw a fair bit of success in its opening week, having sold over 62,000 copies in Japan.

The One Piece Odyssey sees the Straw Hat Pirates stumbling on to the island of Waford. The crew loses its abilities and is forced to embark on a journey through old memories to get their abilities back.

The game also features unique character skills to progress through the game. For example, Luffy can grapple across gaps, while Zorro is able to slice obstacles apart.

Bandai Namco and ILCA’s newly-released RPG One Piece Odyssey has debuted high in the charts as well, occupying both second and third places with its PS4 and PS5 versions, selling over 35,000 units and over 26,000 units respectively. Collectively, the game sold over 62,000 units, which still puts it below Pokemon’s sales.

One Piece Odyssey’s sales, though solid in isolation, have seen a noticeable dip from previous instalments. For instance, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 sold over 137,000 units when it came out.

Meanwhile, on the hardware front, all consoles have seen a drop in sales. The Nintendo Switch still leads the pack with over 74,000 units sold, while the PS5 trails behind with over 44,000 units sold.

While exploring the world, each character has unique skills to progress. Luffy can grapple and soar across gaps while Zorro slices obstacles apart. The Scramble Area Battle system allows for choosing different areas to fight, while the Dramatic Scene system will provide special conditions that reward more EXP when fulfilled.

Those curious about the title can try the demo – it’s available for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One, and it lets you play the first two hours for free. Progress transfers over to the full game as well. Take note of the performance, though, as some stuttering was reported on PlayStation platforms.

Based on Eiichiro Oda’s legendary manga/anime, One Piece Odyssey tells an original story (that’s still canon) about the Straw Hat Pirates venturing to the island of Waford. After losing some of their powers, they revisit memories and regions from the past, including Marineford, Dressrosa, Water Seven and Alabasta. As players explore, they’ll engage in turn-based combat, some with special conditions that grant additional experience and rewards on completion.

A new comparison video by ElAnalistaDeBits examines the demo on PlayStation platforms and reveals some interesting details. The PS4 and PS4 Pro versions both reportedly run at 1080p resolution and 30 frames per second (with the latter having slight improvements to sharpness). The PS5 version has two modes: Quality Mode for 2160p/30 FPS and Performance Mode for 1080p/60 FPS.

It also features improvements to anti-aliasing, texture quality, vegetation, draw distance and shadows. However, there are stuttering problems in Quality Mode. While the frame rate stutters slightly on PS4 and PS4 Pro, it doesn’t seem particularly noteworthy.

One Piece Odyssey is out on January 13th for consoles and PC, so we’ll see if the final product receives an update to improve performance.

Those who played the demo also get a free item, “Golden Jelly,” in the main game to help on their journey. If you’re jumping in to see the Alabasta Kingdom or Water Seven, they take place after the demo’s content, so you’ll need to play the full game.
