Unsurprisingly, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to lead the way, with over 48.41 million units. It saw healthy sales during the latest three-month period, likely thanks to its DLC, with the game selling 1.59 million units during the period. Counting its Wii U sales (8.46 million units), Mario Kart 8’s total lifetime sales stand at 56.87 million units. Meanwhile, Animal Crossing: New Horizons continues to plug along as well, standing at 40.17 million units sold, up from 39.38 million units as of the end of June.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has hit 29.53 million units sold, while The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sits at 27.79 million units. A number of Pokemon titles also see continued sales, with Pokemon Sword and Shield hitting the 25.37 million mark, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl hitting 14.92 million units, and Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! sitting at 14.81 million units. 

Finally, there’s Super Mario Odyssey at 24.4 million units sold, Super Mario Party at 18.35 million units, and Ring Fit Adventure at 14.87 million units. You can check out the full list below.

As reported by Serebii, The Pokemon Company has updated its corporate page, which now mentions that it has shipped over 440 million units of Pokemon games worldwide to date as of March 31, 2022. The same page previously mentioned that as of March 31, 2021, that number stood at over 380 million units, which means 60 million units of Pokemon games were shipped in the 2021-22 financial year.

While sustained sales of older titles will no doubt have contributed to that, it’s worth noting that that tracking period saw the launch of three major Pokemon games for the Nintendo Switch with New Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

As of recently updated sales figures, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have sold 14.65 million units worldwide, while Pokemon Legends: Arceus stands at 12.64 million. New Pokemon Snap, meanwhile, has sold 2.19 million units as of September 2021.

In November, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will launch for Nintendo Switch.

Overall, net profit is up by 123 percent year-on-year thanks to a number of high-profile titles like New Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and Pokemon Legends: Arceus releasing in the 12 month period. Pokemon Legends: Arceus, which was released in January 2022, sold 6.5 million copies in its first week and 12.64 million as of March 31st, 2022.

Meanwhile, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl sold six million units in their first week with 14.65 million sold by March end. With Pokemon Scarlet and Violet releasing in late 2022, the coming fiscal year may prove even more lucrative for the company. Unsurprisingly, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still top, with 45.33 million units sold, which is up from the end of December by 1.78 million units. Combining its sales on the Wii U and the Nintendo Switch, its lifetime sales now stand at 53.79 million units, up from 51.81 million.

Meanwhile, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is also maintaining its solid sales momentum. It sold 1.02 million units in Q4 (January-March) of FY 2021-22, and its lifetime sales currently stand at 38.64 million units. Meanwhile, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has now hit 28.17 million units sold, while The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild stands at 26.55 million.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus has now sold over 12.64 million units worldwide (up from 6.5 million units as of early February), while Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have collectively sold 14.65 million units (up from 13.97 million units as of the end of December).

Figures for both are, to put it mildly, impressive. In fact, Pokemon Legends: Arceus sold 11.4 million units within the first 10 weeks of launch alone. Meanwhile, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have become the best-selling Pokemon remakes to date.

Both titles are likely to maintain solid momentum for the foreseeable future where sales are concerned (particularly Pokemon Legends), while Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, due out later this year, are also expected to be big sellers.

Nintendo has also announced updated lifetime hardware sales for the Nintendo Switch. Read more on that through here. Updated sales figures have also been provided for recent releases like Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Metroid Dread, as well as the top 10 best-selling first party Switch games.

The Pokemon Company has revealed that Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have added another Mythical Pokemon with Arceus and Darkrai, having recently added Shaymin as well. The pair can only be caught in the special event once you’ve finished the story, entered the Hall of Fame, and obtained the National Dex, after which you’ll receive the Azure Flute in your room. From there, head to the Spear Pillar and get ready to face Arceus. To catch Darkrai, meanwhile, you’ll first need to get the Member Card via the Mystery Gift feature, then head to Newmoon Island to find Darkrai.

Meanwhile, patch 1.3.0 has also gone live for the game. In addition to adding support for the aforementioned event, it now also allows players to trade Pokemon with random players online. You can check out the full patch notes below.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus also recently received a new content drop. Meanwhile, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will launch for the Switch later this year.

At yesterday’s Pokemon Presents broadcast, The Pokemon Company announced that the Gen 4 remakes will be adding the Mythical Pokemon Shaymin to its roster. From now until March 27, you can receive Professor Oak’s letter, which will add Shaymin to your collection of pocket pals. This can only be done once you’ve beaten the Elite 4, entered the Hall of Fame, and received the National Dex from Professor Rowan.

Meanwhile, new details on the aforementioned Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have also been emerging, with developer Game Freak confirming that they will be the series’ first fully seamless open world games– though the National Dex won’t be returning, it seems.

A new update, patch 1.2.0, has now gone live as well, and it adds in some nifty features. For starters, Union Room functions have been expanded, with players now being allows to play in parties of eight, while you can now also share your Trainer Cards or Capsule Decorations with others. UPDATE 1.2.0 PATCH NOTES:

• Union Room functions have been expanded.
  • The maximum number of players you can play with via local or internet communication in Union Rooms has been increased to eight. Also, by selecting Greeting or Capsule Decorations, you can show each other your Trainer Cards or Capsule Decorations.
• Additional Colosseum battle feature has been added.
  • Enter the Colosseum on the 2nd floor of a Pokémon Center to battle with other players using custom rulesets.
  • In the Colosseum, you can set rules, such as the number of Pokémon to send into battle as well as their levels, and play Single Battles, Double Battles, or Multi Battles via local or internet communication.
• Pokémon Trading and Battles
  • Some Pokémon acquired via unintended methods or illicit modification now cannot be used in Link Trades or Link Battles.
• Fixed some issues for more pleasant gameplay.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is in second place with 37.62 million sales, up from 34.85 million, while Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is in third with 27.40 million sales, up from 25.71 million. A note about Pokemon Sword and Shield – it’s currently at 23.90 million sales, surpassing Pokemon Gold and Silver which has 23.70 million sales. This makes it the second highest selling Pokemon title of all time, just behind Pokemon Red and Blue (31.38 million sales).

Of course, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl also deserve a mention, having sold 13.97 million copies since launching on November 19th 2021. Along with being the best-selling game on Xbox platforms, it also led sales among tracked PC titles. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl also performed well, ranking third and topping sales on Nintendo platforms for both the month and the entire year. Total dollar sales for the franchise’s physical software also hit the highest annual total since 2000.
