The two biggest games confirmed for TGS 2021 by Square Enix are the PS5-exclusive duo Forspoken and Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin, with the former being scheduled for October 1, and the latter for October 2. Newly announced games such as Switch exclusive Chocobo GP and the Yoko Taro-led Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars will also be shown off on October 3. Meanwhile, you can also expect to see more of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy on October 2, and the mobile battle royale shooter Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier on October 3. As expected, Final Fantasy 16 isn’t mentioned anywhere in the schedule, while it doesn’t look like Triangle Strategy is going to show up either, contrary to what an earlier schedule claimed. We did just got an update on it at the last Nintendo Direct though, so at least we won’t be starved for information.

The Japanese company recently took to Twitter to confirm in no vague terms that it won’t have any exhibits or booths at TGS 2021 in whatsoever, so head into the show with your expectations firmly in check. Of course, that doesn’t mean that there won’t be any Switch games at the show- third party publishers might still bring their upcoming games, like Square Enix is doing with Project Triangle Strategy. We might also see more of Shin Megami Tensei 5 during Atlus’ mega-stream, though that hasn’t yet been confirmed.

Of course, some leaks have suggested that Nintendo has another Direct planned for some time in September, so perhaps the month won’t go by without too much Switch-related news after all. Again though, that remains unconfirmed for now.

Tokyo Game Show will kick off on September 30. The likes of Capcom, Xbox, Square Enix, Koei Tecmo, Konami, Atlus, and many more have confirmed they will be attending.

As spotted by RPG Site, the preliminary exhibit list for TGS 2021 has now gone live, and it details the games that the publisher will be bringing with it. Among these, the biggest upcoming titles are probably Switch exclusive Project Triangle Strategy and the PS5 exclusive Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin (both of which we might see more of, with the PlayStation Showcase set for September 9 and another Nintendo Direct also rumoured for this month).

Meanwhile, Final Fantasy 14 is also mentioned in the list of games, which most likely means we’ll be seeing more of its upcoming expansion, Endwalker. Also on the docket is Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which launches late next month, and the mobile battle royale shooter Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier. Meanwhile, some games that have already released over the past few months will also show up, including Bravely Default 2, Outriders, and NEO: The World Ends with You.

Of course, it’s hard not to notice that major upcoming releases like Forspoken and Final Fantasy 16 are not mentioned in this list. Given comments made by the latter’s producer Naoki Yoshida in the not-too-distant past, this doesn’t really come as a huge surprise, though fans will still be disappointed.

Either way, we’ll be covering all details and updates coming from TGS, so stay tuned.

On the first day, which is September 30, both Xbox and Capcom have 50 minute-long streams, with Microsoft promising “some exclusive news and content”, though it remains to be seen exactly what that will be. Square Enix will also have a stream later that day and will share “latest news about [their] upcoming titles.”

With the likes of Forspoken and Final Fantasy 16 currently in the works, there’s definitely plenty to hope for where Square Enix’s TGS show is concerned- though of course, there’s every chance that Final Fantasy 16 does not show up, based on what producer Naoki Yoshida has said in the past. Of course, Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker might show up as well.

Other companies with confirmed livestreams over the course of TGS 2021 include D3 Publisher, Konami, Koei Tecmo, 505 Games, Ubisoft, Arc System Works, miHoYo, NCSoft, and more. Sega has previously also confirmed three days of Atlus streams to go alongside TGS 2021- read more on that through here.

Of course, with E3 having come and gone without any trace of Final Fantasy 16, fans are hoping that future events like State of Play presentations or Tokyo Game Show will be where it finally shows up. However, it seems unlikely that a trailer of the game will be shown off in the coming weeks. At a recent Final Fantasy 14 livestream (translated by @aitaikimochi on Twitter), Yoshida said that Final Fantasy 16 might not be shown at Tokyo Game Show, which is scheduled for late September.

Yoshida said that development on the game is progressing well, with work on all scenarios having been completing and voice recording for the game’s English version almost entirely done. He then went on to add that in spite of that, the next time they show the game, he wants it to be done and close to launch, so that people will want to (and can) buy it soon.

Echoing earlier statements, he also said that he doesn’t want to string along fans with smaller updates on the game.

Final Fantasy 16, whenever it launches will be available for PS5.
