Multiple team could team up together to target the insular market.

Sony has a lot of studios under its belt. They have a long list of various teams from various places, with Insomniac Games being their latest acquisition. Alongside this, we also have an emerging Asian market, specifically China, in the gaming industry. Sony is watching that pretty closely, and the president of SIE Worldwide Studios sees a future where their many studios may team up with Asian developers for that market.

Speaking to GameWatch at Tokyo Game Show 2019, Shuhei Yoshida mulled over the emerging Asian markets. He mentions that we don’t see a lot of collaboration between US and European studios and Asian ones, and he can see more working together in the near future. We’ve seen hints of that with Chinajoy conference earlier in the year (thanks to Wccftech for translations).

“SIE Worldwide Studios is also a studio that plays a role in creating and deploying games in earnest as a publisher, and I think it’s rare in the world for developers from Japan, the US, and Europe to participate,” said Yoshida. “There is a possibility that Asian developers may join us in the future, and when that happens, we are starting to think that it would be interesting to think about creating games for the Asian market as well.”

China is an emerging market in many entertainment sectors, so there’s no doubt that Sony is among many looking at that new market with hope of penetrating it. It’ll be interesting to see what kinds of projects and collaborations we’ll see.

Shuhei Yoshida forsees a long life for the creation-based game.

Dreams is an interesting project, to say the least. It’s less of a game and more a full creation toolset. Already a lot of fun projects have been made in Dreams, as well as fairly faithful recreations of other game levels. Apparently, it’s something that Sony is high on, too, as they have a long term plan for the title.

Speaking with PlayStation Asia during the Tokyo Game Show, Sony’s Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida spoke about the game in glowing terms. It’s apparently his favorite game coming from Sony at this point in time, and he says they are looking at a decade long plan for Dreams and its growing community (thanks to Push Square for the translation).

Though Dreams is no doubt an interesting proposition, there are a lot of potential pitfalls that haven’t been addressed just yet. At some point it’s been mentioned that games made in Dreams could be sold, but things like ownership rights as well as revenue split haven’t been discussed. But I guess that’s a bridge we will have to cross when the game is out of early access.

I’m not sure what happened exactly, but September this year was about the most packed that I can personally ever remember it being game wise. But don’t let yourself get too burned out now, as next month we’ve still got a few heavy hitters, and one of them is The Outer Worlds. The next game from Obsidian Entertainment, it’s an RPG that’s promising a lot, and today we got a look at the game’s opening moments.

Provided via VGC, the gameplay footage comes directly from Tokyo Game Show 2019. You don’t get to see the game’s opening cinematic or the character creation, it hops right into the action after that part is done. You see some encounters with a few hostile humans and animals. We also get to see some of the game’s conversations that will lead into some morally grey areas. Check it out.

The Outer Worlds will release October 25th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, with a Switch version announced for a later date. The game is hoping to launch a new franchise, so let’s cross our fingers it manages to deliver.

The Japanese voices weigh in on the anticipated game.

Death Stranding is sure to rule the charts come November, as it sees the return of Hideo Kojima along with the brand of hype and mystery only he can generate. While a lot of focus has been on the big Hollywood names he’s managed to wrangle into the game, there’s some familiar faces and voices coming for those playing in Japanese.

In a large preview panel for the game at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, Kojima brought up many of the Japanese voice actors for a breakdown of their characters. If you’re familiar with the Japanese dubs of the Metal Gear Solid games, you’ll hear a lot of familiar voices here. They talk about their influences, and how they tackled the bizarre characters and layered worlds Kojima created with the game. Unfortunately, there isn’t an English subtitled version of the video, which is below, but thankfully the fine folks at DualShockers translated and transcribed the talk, which you can check out here if you don’t happen to know Japanese.

Death Stranding releases November 8th exclusively on PlayStation 4. For an idea of what the game’s story is like (sorta), you can see the Briefing trailer through here. For an overview of the gameplay you can expect to see (…sorta), there’s also something for you.

Watch Vegeta traverse the world and Gohan battle the dastardly Cell.

During stage events at Tokyo Game Show 2019, Bandai Namco revealed more gameplay of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. The first included gameplay of Vegeta as he roamed the open world, encountered characters like Tien and so on. The second is perhaps more interesting since it showcases Gohan battling Cell.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot may focus on the trials and tribulations of Goku (who was born as Kakarot) but it runs through a number of famous arcs. Starting with the Raditz Saga up to the Cell Saga and even the Buu Saga, there’s quite a lot to play through. The combat seems to hold up pretty well – it’s fast paced and looks responsive.

Releasing on January 17th 2020 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is developed by CyberConnect 2 of the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja and Ultimate Ninja Storm series. If you pre-order the game, you get an extra sub-story, a bento cooking item and the ability to train with ex-Ginyu Force member Bonyu. Stay tuned for more details en route to release.

Bandai Namco’s Tales of Arise received a new trailer during the Tokyo Game Show, focusing on protagonists Alphen and Shionne. It sets Alphen up as a man who can’t feel pain and is thus capable of wielding a searing sword. Shionne, on the other hand, causes pain to those who touch her. However, she can also wield healing magic to help Alphen.

This sets up an interesting dynamic on top of the characters’ already odd relationship. Shionne hails from Rena, a world with incredible technology and magic but one that exploits and rules over the planet Dahna. Alphen is from Dahna. Where their journey leads them remains to be seen.

However, it seems they won’t be alone. A third character was teased at the end of the trailer – a girl with a flying pet of sorts. Tales of Arise is out in 2020 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC so hopefully, more details about the setting will be revealed. Stay tuned in the meantime for more details and check out some of the combat below.

Persona 5 Royal is only about a month away from release in its homeland of Japan. It’s promising a lot of new content to a game that already was packed with content. There also just happens to be a big gaming conference in Tokyo going on right now, so of course the game got a little showing. We got a look at some of that new content in the form of Challenge Battles.

On TGS 2019 Day 3, Sega and Atlus hosted an event focused on the game. It featured several of the game’s Japanese voice actors. After a chat and recap about the game, they showed off the Challenge Battles. These are going to be a series of battles accessed via The Velvet Room. Here you will have to face off against tough enemies without the use of your most powerful moves (such as the All-Out Attack) to get various rewards. Check it out below.

Persona 5 Royal may release in Japan on October 31st, but those of us in the West will have to wait until Spring 2020. In the meantime, you can check out the stylish new opening movie for the game.

Shower or make funny faces and screenshot them for likes.

Kojima Productions presented more gameplay for Death Stranding at the Tokyo Game Show, this time focusing on protagonist Sam Bridges’ Private Room. It’s a place for Sam to sit down, unwind and generally take a break though you can’t control him. Check out the 30 minute presentation below courtesy of GameSpot.

Some interesting bits: When Sam is sitting, his feet will start tapping upon zooming in. The room also has a shower and mirror, the latter useful for making funny faces (which actor Norman Reedus apparently had a lot of fun with). Screenshot those expressions and see how many likes you get from other players.

The room does have some practical uses. It seems you can also charge the Breach Baby (as revealed in the video for Deadman from Gamescom) and look at items. Death Stranding is out on November 8th for PS4. Check out the Briefing trailer as well which provides some context on the game’s story. For more action, check out the 50 minute Volume 1 presentation here.

The Jellyfish pirate returns, looking older than previous games.

A new trailer for the next Guilty Gear game by Arc System Works was revealed at Tokyo Game Show 2019. It’s more gameplay with the likes of Sol Badguy and Ky Kiske, and only highlights once more just how stunning the game looks. Check it out below.

However, arguably the biggest part of the trailer is the end which reveals May. The Jellyfish pirate looks older here and has a new get-up but is still sporting her giant anchor. The next trailer for the game will be showcased at CEOtaku 2019 on September 27th to 29th. Fans will also get a chance to play the game at the ArcRevo World Tour Final 2019 on November 16th to 17th.

Guilty Gear still doesn’t have a final name but it’s releasing in 2020 for the PlayStation 4. Additional platforms have yet to be confirmed. Regarding the approach to gameplay, series creator Daisuke Ishiwatari said it would be a “complete reconstruction” of the franchise, catering to new and old players alike.

A look at the game's western logo.

When the Series Director promised that Yakuza 7 would be a departure for the series, people didn’t quite expect it to be as big of a one as revealed. Going from an old school brawler, beat’em up to a turn-based RPG was a shock to the system for many fans, leading to a lot of polarizing reactions. Well, regardless, the genie is out of the bottle and today via the Tokyo Game Show, we got a new gameplay trailer as well as the western announcement trailer.

First up we get some new gameplay footage. While it’s all in Japanese, you can still enjoy watching the turn-based action if you don’t speak or read the language. It may not be classic Yakuza, but it certainly looks chaotically fun. We also get to see a bit of the silly minigames the franchise is known for, such as the Kart Racing one we heard about earlier.

Then we have the official western announcement trailer that focuses on the game’s story. It’s not dubbed yet, so it’s in Japanese with subtitles and gives you a quick and basic idea of what the game’s plot will be. It also reveals the western logo at the end, which is pretty slick.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon will release in January of 2020 exclusively on PlayStation 4 in Japan. A western release has been officially announced but as now no date has been set.
