Assassin’s Creed Unity PS4 Has No Apparent Stuttering & FPS Issue, Holds Up Well In Crowded Scene

PS4 version tested in one of the most crowded areas of the game.

Earlier today there were reports that Assassin’s Creed Unity  suffers from choppy frame rate and stuttering issues across all platforms. In order to verify this claim, we tested the PlayStation 4 version of the game in one of the most crowded areas of the game. The results were pretty encouraging as there were no visible signs stuttering or frame rate drops in the video above.

However it must be noted that we tested just one area and there might be a possibility that frame rate drops might happen in another section of the map. During our initial playthrough of the PS4 version, we found next to no frame rate drops but we will keep you updated if we find anything that leads to a more consistent drop in performance.

It must also be noted that we had applied the day one patch which is more than 880 MB. We saw no difference between the patched and unpatched version of the game. So far Assassin’s Creed Unity on the PS4 is a fairly stable game and if there any issues (which we did not came across except several glitches), we hope Ubisoft will patch them out soon.

Evidence on GAF points to the contrary. Nice shilling AGAIN!

i had very apparent fps drops inside an empty church, so it might not be related to the amount of NPC’s on screen.. it went down to single digits.

    PS4 version, day1 patch

It’s not related to huge crowds. I’ve walked and ran through huge crowds on PS4 and it’s smooth as silk.

Bullshit. Between Xbox and PS4 the Xbox holds up better but still drops frames, the PS4 how ever has drops to 20 fps often and can go down to 15. Digital foundry has a video showing as much.

That situation is not all the time and it is not related to the huge crowds.

Man in general, the game runs fine. Some noticeable drops here n there. Don’t let anybody stop u from having fun with this game. Luving the move to more AI bodies and behaviour. Ubi does need to optimize better in general, but the game isn’t unplayable like a mass of people r saying. Go have fun with it.

Well I have the Ps4 version and it’s horrible. The FPS drops constantly down below 20. It’s ridiculous. I bought it for PC today, which I should’ve done in the first place but most my friends are on PS4, and my 780sc plays it great except now it stops completely for two seconds every once in a while and I’m just stuck in place and everything freezes. It’s done it at least 8 times now. I noticed it too on PS4 when climbing the Notre Dame Cathedrial by the stained glass windows. The game would stutter and freeze up for a second or two. Don’t know if it’s the same thing on both games or if it’s something entirely different in each.

That’s not related to huge crowds. It’s loading something it shouldn’t in that particular position, because if you move to a different position and climb up, there is no stutter. That’s just bad programming. A bug that needs fixing.

It is not the crowds that are creating the stutters. It is aggressive AI activity. I’ve walked through massive crowds with zero stutter and silky smooth movement. But in certain set piece congested areas where action breaks out, you get some stutter as all the AI starts to fire up attacking you. That could have been sorted on the PS4 given a bit more dev time if the 6 extra compute units inside the PS4 GPU were used for direct compute, taking the strain off the weak CPU.
