Dungeon Defenders 2 Not Coming To Xbox One, Developer Praises Sony’s Policies For PS4

“We really love the folks at PlayStation.”

Dungeon Defenders 2

Philip Asher who is the Marketing Director at Trendy Entertainment has revealed to GamingBolt that Sony’s policies for the PlayStation 4 is the reason why they opted to go console exclusive with them. The PC version of the game been under early access for quite a while and it was announced during The Game Awards show that it will also come to the PS4.

It’s rather interesting that Trendy Entertainment decided to skip the Xbox One version since they would ideally want to be on as many platforms as possible. When asked whether there was a specific reason they are skipping the Xbox One version, Asher stated the following:

“We really love the folks at PlayStation and right now a lot of policies on the PS4 made it a better fit for Dungeon Defenders II, since it will be a free-to-play title,” he said to GamingBolt.

He also explained how different classes will interact with each other. “In Dungeon Defenders II we’ve implemented a combo system that allows heroes’ Defenses and Abilities to interact. So, for example, a Monk can place a lightning aura over a Huntress’ geyser trap. Then, when enemies walk through the geyser trap they will get wet and when they get dealt the electric damage from the lightning aura they will become stunned.”

Dungeon Defenders 2 will release on PC and PS4 sometime this year, however the developers stated to us that they are not sure whether they will be able to launch it simultaneously on both platforms since the game is deep in development on the PS4.

can’t wait for the posters from this article to weigh in. lol

  • jacksjus

Why sensationalize the article by mentioning that it isn’t coming to the XOne?
Just say the game is coming to PS4 and PC and leave it at that. No sense in opening up a pissing match on who got what and why.

    • Thad Vanity

      It’s how this website survives.

      Click & Flame Bait……

    • DarthDiggler

Where is the bait actually? The article is specifically about this game coming to PS4 and not XBONE.

Granted they are tossing a little flame into the console war, but far less than other entities do.

Funny how sensitive XBOX owners have become this generation.

    • xfatalxzero

Not everyone is sensitive, or even cares that the playstation can hit higher resolution (though its frames are choppy) I want a PS4 I own an XB1 what Im tired about is neither console is powerful any many games are releasing on them at higher equalities although the consoles are losing frame rate and also screen tearing.

Where is the bait actually? The article is specifically about this game coming to PS4 and not XBONE

So I’m guessing you didn’t read the title … or did you? Considering the title I would think that another indie developer is bashing MS policies i.e. fanboy ammo.

What exactly do you think such a title would bring? That’s a rhetorical question as phar0ahad3 (with 20+ likeminded people i.e. fanboys) has already answered that.

You’re right, that’s a considerable possibility. Xbox owners have gotten defensive this generation, but for the most part that’s thanks to PlayStation “owners” (that is fanboys, not “normal” owners), who for more than a year (and obviously still do) jumped on any and every xbox related article and bashed on everyone (and MS if they can of course) who even thought about getting an xb1 or, Cthulhu forbid, had one.

So considering that, PlayStation owners (fanboys – big distinction – like the one saying “MS is evil”) have actually gotten worse since last gen, and considering how it was… well that’s saying something.

    • Thad Vanity

I’m just not deluded by bias.

The title is clearly worded to invoke typical console fanboyism and the resulting flame war.

If you cant see that; your ignorant in one way or another.

What relevance does the actions of other media outlets have on the actions of this one? Scapegoating much?

Implying I own an xbox? lol ; cute

    • Because they asked why it wasn’t coming and got a specific answer to that effect?

I mean it was already announced that it would hit PS4 at PSX, but there wasn’t any details on exclusivity. There are now, they asked, they got an answer.

    • jacksjus

Understood. However going by your logic did they learn anything new as to the reason why not? No.

So again the article was sensationalized to cause debate. I haven’t read any N4G comments but I’m willing to bet it’s 95% about Sony vs. MS and 5% about the game itself.

I don’t even have to look to know that much. Lol!

    • DarthDiggler

The issue is with you. If you don’t like the article don’t read it. Do us all a favor and don’t comment on articles any more if you are going to be a pushover about it.

This article had a headline that reflects what was in the body of the article, which is more than I can say for about 75% of the websites that link on N4G.

Just because you don’t like the news doesn’t mean that information isn’t newsworthy to others.

Stop being such an obvious XBOX Fanboy. You Xbox fans are SO sensitive this generation. It’s adorable. 🙂

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

Yet mention 800P and 30FPS and you Sony fans go into a berzerk rage.

      Console fanboys are hilarious, really

    • Yes, actually. They did.

Dungeon Defenders 2 wasn’t stated to be exclusive when announced. Then it was. They asked why. They got the answer: devs preferred Sony’s policies.

Sometimes the blunt truth is the blunt truth.

    • DarthDiggler

Because the central information of the article is in the form of a quote from the developer. Also the game not coming to XBONE is news in itself.

“We really love the folks at PlayStation and right now a lot of policies on the PS4 made it a better fit for Dungeon Defenders II, since it will be a free-to-play title,” he said to GamingBolt.

Now I am curious when SOE announced that they were going independent as Daybreak Game Company did you leave any comments saying it wasn’t necessary to say that they would make games for XBOX now? Wouldn’t it had been enough just to say they are no longer under Sony and now independent? 🙂

    • Rafoca

      It’s coming tomorrow to Xbox

  • XanderZane41

    Lose of money right there.

    • GotNews4Ya

Not really.. Most people have a PC… and this game isn’t demanding.. so you can probably play it on most PC’s.. for free.. and Their reason was obvious to me.. when they talk about Sony’s “policies are better suited for them”.. they are specifically talking about the Pay Wall on Xbox Live for Free To Play games. That is kind of standing up to them in a way.. I hope more games get the nerve to say those things.. They want EVERYONE to be able to play, whether they got a subscription or not.. and Microsoft doesn’t believe in that. Then again.. that is my pretty extensive theory.

    • Kraymer Cosco

but yet thay copyed the xbox live said thay use it to make thing better lies an it not free to play. so it all bs

  • phar0ahad3

Devs gotta call out xbox for the evil company they are stand up and speak these mofo’s dont care about gaming its very clear with there decisions

    • DarthDiggler

I hope Jack is reading this from above, at least he will understand I have some objectivity. 🙂

I don’t think Microsoft is evil, they just have a different strategy for success than Sony. It seems they are not as open to Free to Play titles as Sony.

    • phar0ahad3

just seems there strategy is to ristrict gamers and force ads and american corporatelism on there consumers you dont need to make games just buy them 🙂

    • kma99

Enough with your stupid opinion . You clearly have no ideas about anything dealing with Microsoft.

    • phar0ahad3

      you mad ?

    • kma99

Why be mad over someone’s bias opinion. You add nothing of importance to these comments just swayed negativity.

    • phar0ahad3

only way to fight opression is with negativity ……………..

    • kma99

How are you being oppressed on a gaming site? Feeling entitled too much.

    • DLConspiracy//

You got backed in a corner in the conversation. “They did it first?” Are you serious right now?.

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

      You mean like this?

That’s some pretty capitalistic practices there

    • phar0ahad3

well microsoft did it first …………….

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

The fact you excuse this garbage from Sony because “MS did it first” shows poisonous your mindset is to gaming.

    • DLConspiracy//

They are a corporation just like Sony. I own both and why is it that Sony will charge to change the background of my UI and MS doesn’t? Don’t fool yourself into thinking these companies aren’t out to make money. This isn’t Nottingham and Sony ain’t no Robin Hood.

  • HalfBlackCanuck

    Wait, Xbox One doesn’t o free-to-play anymore?

    • DarthDiggler

It seems MS makes it difficult to get free to play titles on their platform. Which makes me wonder how Daybreak Game Company (SOE) is ever going to get PlanetSide and DCUO on XBOX. DCUO at least offers a subscription and has a retail disc. PlanetSide 100% F2P.

    • kma99

Wow warframe, neverwinter, smite all says hello. The developer clearly already had a working relationship with Sony and probably took Sonya pub fund which calls for a measure of exclusivity when signing any agreement .

    • kma99

Microsoft isn’t difficult to work with they learned their lessons from allowing all of that shovel ware garbage on the 360 last gen.

  • kreator

This game is gonna be trash, you read it here first!

  • i3myX1

Good for him if he likes Sony and does not want to work with MS.

  • JerkDaNERD7

Wow, I’ll be missing sooo much. In the mean time “I’ts the CATALINA WINE MIXER!!” …lol! xDD

  • Failz

Dungeon Defender 2? Who cares. Keep those Indies on Steam, I didn’t buy a next gen console to play low budget indie games.

  • corvusmd

This doesn’t affect me personally, I wouldn’t actually buy this game on my PS4 or my X1, but I do hope that MS takes note and later when these devs try to put future games on X1, MS sticks it to them.

In other news, I’m playing the Neverwinter Beta on X1 right now…which is ALSO a F2P game on X1….sounds like someone was just trying to find a “reason” to say they were bought out.

  • Pops

Oh well their lost.this is a dumb move.the game is free to play.how do they expect to get paid.

  • Bigjoe275

Who wants another microtransaction game. Not me glad there not releasing this to xbox one. F2P means P2W

  • Kraymer Cosco

feel so cheated I was watching this game way back an it started saying it was going to xbox one so mad!

  • TNArulezWWE

There loss, since there previous title was highly popular on 360 and no doubt this would of been on xb1, they shot them self in the foot if anything..

  • Cooper Meaney

I hate how it’s not coming to Xbox one it was my favorite game on Xbox 360 and now I’m on Xbox one and I’m really disappointed with the developers for doing this, I understand that they are loyal to Sony but it’s not fare to us on Xbox

  • Rafoca

I must be crazy, cause the Xbox version releases tomorrow.

These timed exclusive deals are funny
