In our recent interview with the creator and director of Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey, Ragnar Tørnquist has shared his thoughts about current gen consoles i.e. the PS4 and Xbox One.

GamingBolt asked  Tørnquist whether he thinks with time the PS4 and Xbox One’s API and GPU tools will get better so that they will be able to compete with the high end PC GPUs out there, to which he replied:

Oh, definitely. Just take a look at some of last year’s games — such as GTAV or The Last of Us — and how far they pushed the ancient, creaking hardware. I have no doubt that there’s a ton of potential locked away in this new hardware, and we’re itching to unlock it. I can’t wait to see the next wave of next-gen games — I’m sure we’ll experience some amazing worlds and concepts in the months and years to come. The console isn’t dead quite yet.”

Tørnquist makes a point. Both Grand Theft Auto 5 and The Last of Us pushed boundaries on last gen consoles and it will be definitely interesting to see what developers will do with these current gen consoles that are pumped with a ton of memory.

PC GPU hardware will outpace the tools to get em that far so which high end hardware are they talking about? The Maxwell gpus from NVIDIA will immediately put a massive gap between consoles and even some gpus now so need to bolt down which high end gpus there talking about cus if these tools come out in 3-4 years the gpus then will make gpus today look like they come from the stone age!!

this doesnt say anything about that, it only says that they will be able to push the hardware, just like all previous times but now pc has both the architecture and the power not to mention the ever increasing power of mantle.

Yeah I don’t buy it. When the PS3 and 360 launched they were more powerful in their day in relation to the PC than the current consoles are. That allowed them to stay relevant longer. These new consoles are already much weaker than PC’s. They are fairly close now to a good mid-ranged PC but will fall behind quicker than before. Better tools will help but they don’t stand a chance against a high end gpu. They will have to sacrifice resolution and special effects at a minimum and probably fps as well.
