Ape Out
Devolver Digital’s Ape Out might not seem much of a stealth game at the first glance – hell, it’s a game about an ape trying to escape a complex maze by killing everyone and anyone who dares to step in his way. However, once observed closely – there’s a fair bit of strategy involved in how to approach these encounters so as to make it out alive. The mazes are procedurally generated, so it’s absolutely necessary to learn the simple yet pretty satisfying mechanics of the game. The simplistic yet charming design is also reflected in the game’s visuals, which use just a handful of colors to great effect. Ape Out focuses on building flow and momentum, which gives it a blisteringly fast-paced mix of stealth and action which is something that’s pretty rare in games of the genre.
