Death is common in video games. Developers need some way to tell players that they messed up. However, dying in a disappointing or embarrassing way only shows your lack of skill or attention and is never a good thing to highlight. So we’ll do it for you. The first level of Super Mario Bros. is a very tame experience. All you have to do is jump over a couple Goombas and Koopas, jump into some bricks, and not fall into a pit or two. Get two ambitious and you may just run headfirst into the very first Goomba the game ever throws at you. This will not only make you feel like you are bad at the game from the get-go, seeing Mario fall off the screen as the life loss music plays only makes matters worse.
