STAR WARS: REPUBLIC COMMANDO (PC/XBOX)
Star Wars: Republic Commando was yet another first person shooter in the Star Wars universe, but this time, with a twist. Released in a post Halo world, the good folks at LucasArts must have felt some sort of pressure to justify another space sci fi shooter, and they differentiated their game with one of the most intriguing mechanics to have been featured in a shooter- the game featured you and your squadmates, but unlike in modern shooters, where your squadmates are just sort of there to provide visual dressing to a level, these ones had actual value in terms of the gameplay. You could issue orders to them, telling them what to do, and if you got incapacitated (this game’s version of ‘dying’) you could issue orders to them to come revive you. It was like a party based RPG translated to a real time first person shooter- and it was awesome.
Republic Commando is available on the Xbox 360 via backwards compatibility. Definitely give it a go, it’s one of the more novel Star Wars shooters.
