N64-DD

Nintendo did eventually give in to the demand for disc based games, but not in the way you’d image. The N64-DD was an add-on for the N64, a disc drive that could be attached to the bottom of the system. What’s wrong with that, you ask? Well, it supported a specific type of discs that you had to purchase from Nintendo and only had a capacity of 64 MB, which was kind of missing the point entirely. As if that wasn’t enough, when the accessory launched, it supported only ten N64 titles. Combine that with the fact that the marketing for the 64-DD was nothing short of shambolic, and it’s no big surprise that Nintendo decided to discontinue it just a few short months later.
