PBR is one of the key visual techniques employed by eighth-gen games, and, by itself goes a long way towards enabling developers to create near-photorealistic environments. Physically based rendering takes into account how interacts with materials in the real world, allowing for remarkably realistic surfaces, particularly metals. When combined with global illumination in a game like Assassin’s Creed: Unity, the results are often striking.
