Nintendo’s Mario franchise is surely among the biggest brand names in the gaming industry. Since its inception over three decades ago, the series has gone on to deliver numerous generation-defining games across all genres, wowing people time and again with its inventiveness and the pure joy it never fails to provide in spades. With Super Mario Odyssey, Nintendo is taking its flagship franchise into a bold and exciting direction, with a game design philosophy that seems to heavily reminiscent of what we saw so many years ago with Super Mario 64.

And the more we see and hear of Odyssey, the more convinced we become that we’re in for a truly great experience. From new moves and beautiful new locations to new ideas and mechanics that we have never seen in a Mario game before, there’s a lot to be excited about. Here, in this feature, we’re going to take a look at fifteen of the most exciting features that have us hyped beyond reason for Super Mario Odyssey.

POWER MOONS

Super Mario Odyssey is going to play with the Super Mario formula in interesting ways, and one of the biggest changes it is going to make is to remove stars with Power Moons. Rather than having stages and levels with specific objectives and tasks that reward players with stars upon completion, in Odyssey, there will be dozens upon dozens of Power Moons hidden in every nook and cranny of all the worlds players will be visiting, and you will get them for all sorts of interactions with the game world.
