Game of the Year Nominees:
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Overview: Uncharted 2 was fantastic, plain and simple. The visuals were amazing and the gameplay was there to back it up. The story was like an action movie that kept you on the edge of your seat until the very end. On top of the single player there was a very fun multiplayer aspect. The multiplayer doesn’t feel like a tacked on addition either, it is a fullmultiplayer with parties and matchmaking. Games are fun and run smoothly and have the same outstanding visuals. I hate to pick favorites but Uncharted 2 is really has an advantage in this one.
Prediction: Big Hit
Dragon Age Origins
Overview: Dragon Age is yet another fantastic RPG from Bioware. This time they went out on their own away from the Dungeons and Dragons rule set from Baldur’s Gate and created their own fantasy world with its own new but similar rules. To say it was a success is an understatement. With an epic story lasting 50 hours or more Dragon Age gives you real bang for your buck. Dragon Age is easily one of the top games of the year and is worthy of being nominated for GOTY.
Prediction: Big Hit
Killzone 2
Overview: Killzone 2 was a huge visual achievement when it released earlier this year. Though Uncharted 2 eventually released with arguably better looking visuals, Killzone 2 still looks great. On top of that it had an excellent multiplayer mode that managed to stay intense until the very last moments of the game. While the single player had its faults, Killzone 2 is the complete FPS package and is not one to miss.
Prediction: Hit
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Overview: Modern Warfare 2 is one of the top games of the year because of its action packed single player and hectic online multiplayer as well as its co-op mode Spec-Ops. Nothing matched it this year when it came to hype or fan base. Unfortunately it took a few hits when some game ruining glitches emerged and when some were upset by the short single player. In the end though nothing this year was as Big as Modern Warfare 2.
Prediction: Hit
Batman Arkham Asylum
Overview: When Arkham Asylum released no one knew it was going to be as good as it was. It was Batman, a Batman game could never be that good. Rocksteady was on a mission to make a game worthy of Batman and they not only accomplished that, but they made a game worthy of being GOTY. Visually stunning, atmospherically amazing, and with a voice cast that more than delivered. Arkham Asylum was outstanding and more than worthy of its nomination.
Prediction: Big Hit
Assassins Creed 2
Overview: It would have been easy for Ubisoft to only improve a few things for Assassins Cree 2. The first game sold very well despite several flaws, the worst of which were the very repetitious missions. Instead Ubisoft released a sequel that not only made right what was wrong with the original, but it added so many other improvements that it became one of the best games of the year.
