Paradox Interactive and Harebrained Schemes’ Kickstarted funded mech based turn based game, BattleTech, was originally going to release this year- however, it seems like the game has been delayed into 2018, with Paradox and Harebrained both citing their desire to have this game be the best it can be and meet their internal standards as the reason for the delay.
“Throughout development our Backers have been clear: ‘Don’t rush it, just make it great.’ and we have taken that advice to heart. HBS, Paradox, and our Backers all share a deeply personal attachment to this project and we are committed to delivering a game that not only meets the high expectations of our Backers and fans but introduces BattleTech to a new generation of players,” said Harebrained Schemes CEO Jordan Weisman, explaining the reason for the delay.
“The feedback and enthusiasm from Beta participants has shown us just how great BattleTech can be, and rushing development to fit a timeline would be a disservice. We believe in the Harebrained Schemes team, and want them to give the game the time and attention they need to create a turn-based game worthy of the name,” Paradox Interactive CEO Fredrik Wester added.
Now, the good news is, this is not the end of the world- to soften the blow of the final game’s release delay, Paradox and Harebrained have gone announced the pending update for the backers’ beta later this week, adding gameplay changes, AI upgrades, balance changes, and interface enhancement. They have also confirmed that another beta update, which adds PvP multiplayer, will be releasing some time next month.
So you will still get to be playing the game this year- just not the final release. As of right now, BattleTech will launch some time early next year.
