Call of Duty: WW2 Developer Calls PS4 Pro and Xbox One X ‘Incredible’

"Each year, our technology and techniques are evolving."

With iterative consoles now being a reality of the industry, thanks to the PS4 Pro and the upcoming Xbox One X, how exactly do developers feel about having additional hardware SKUs to develop and optimize for? Apparently, Sledgehammer Games, who are behind the upcoming Call of Duty: WW2, think these new consoles are ‘truly incredible’.

Speaking to We Write Things, Sledgehammer said, “The new generation of consoles is truly incredible. Each year, our technology and techniques are evolving, just as the new hardware evolves. This opens the door for more innovation, and more immersive experiences. From our new physics system, new AI system, new lighting and rendering techniques, and new audio features, we’re able to do so much more than we’ve ever been able to before.”

It is interesting to see that developers remain interested and excited about the possibilities that this new hardware affords them without having to worry about weaker hardware, even as the new hardware remains tethered to the weaker hardware to begin with.

Nonetheless, given the scalability of most modern game development engines and pipelines, it does make sense that they would be excited about the higher ceiling that is now available to them for them to be able to express themselves on the higher end. it will be great to see what they manage to pull off on these new machines as they become more entrenched. Call of Duty: WW2 launches this November for PS4, Xbox One, and PC; PS4 Pro enhancements for the game have been confirmed, while Xbox One X enhancements have been leaked, but not officially confirmed yet.
