Borderlands 3 – All Vault Hunters Are Balanced for Both, Solo and Co-op Gameplay

"We want to make sure that people can play literally any way that they want," says senior producer Anthony Nicholson.

As Borderlands 3’s release draws closer, we’ve learned a great deal more about it, especially its combat- from it improved AI and more varied combat options to how Gearbox Software have tried to keep one-upping themselves in terms of weapon variety. But questions about the game’s combat in terms of its co-operative aspects still persist- this is a heavily co-op focused game, after all.

So with that in mind, in Borderlands 3’s roster of Vault Hunters, have Gearbox Software tuned them differently based on how you’ll be interacting with the game? Are some Vault Hunters better suited to co-op gameplay, with others being better balanced for solo playthroughs? According to senior producer Anthony Nicholson, who spoke with GamingBolt in a group interview, that is not the case. Each Vault Hunter, as per Nicholson, is balanced to be equally viable across both solo and co-op play, thanks to customization options that allow players to play however they want.

“No, I don’t think so,” Nicholson told GamingBolt when asked if Gearbox has balanced Vault Hunters differently for co-op and solo. “Because now we have the multiple action skills, there’s not really a way to say that one works much better in co-op. We want to make sure that people can play literally any way that they want. They can make their vault hunters anyway that they want, style them, customize them the way that they want. You can play solo or cooperatively and it still works just as good.”

Borderlands 3 is out on September 13 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and will also be launching with Stadia in November.
