It’s been almost 2 years now since Biomutant has been demoed and shown to a large degree. It lead many to wonder if the game was still in development, but at the beginning of 2020 we got assurances that it was. Now, for the first time in a long time, we got a good look at the game, as well as a lot of new details.

As part of IGN’s Summer of Gaming, they sat down with the game’s Creative Director Stefan Ljungqvist to talk about this reemergence. During the interview, clips from the game played showing a mix of older and new stuff, and it looks like the game’s gotten a decent visual face lift here, though it always looked quite good.

As for the game itself, Ljungqvist detailed the customization you’ll have where you have a choice between six different tribes, which will be the DNA base for what kind of mutant you will be able to make, which will also include having options such as whether you want to make a slower, hulking character or a smaller nimble one that doesn’t quite hit as hard. Along with that, there’s a variety of classes, such as the commando with a focus on gun combat. Guns, gears and loot also play a part as you must chose which ones will best fit the type of zone you’re in.

As far as the story, the game follows your created character as he aligns with one of the many tribes in the game to either destroy or save the roots of a massive Life Tree at the center of the world. You will journey to each root and fight bosses along the way until coming to what is described as a ‘world eater’ fight, some of which are highlighted in the video.

Unfortunately, no word on when to expect this, but last we heard Biomutant was set to come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. We’ll keep you up to date on when more information comes.
