Once upon a time, Ace Combat was a premier series, the kind where the announcement and release of a new release was always an anticipated and hyped event. Unfortunately, some lackluster outings, as well as some misguided experiments with the free to play format, really took away a lot of the series’ sheen.
See, a full fledged, numbered Ace Combat 7 may be coming- some pretty smart Japanese gamers have datamined the files for Ace Combat Infinity’s (the aforementioned free to play game) newest update, and they have discovered this message:

Roughly this translates to an advertisement for buying some virtual goods, followed by a thanks for playing message, finally followed by a statement confirming that Ace Combat 7 has been announced at the PlayStation Experience.
Huh. Very interesting. That might be one completely unexpected announcement coming up later this week, then.
