In a recent interview with GamingBolt, Diablo 3’s lead producer Alex Mayberry revealed that the PS4 version of the game won’t be a straight port and that they plan to make changes that will make it “feel like it was made for that platform.”
When asked how the PS4 version will differ from the PC one, Alex stated, “We’ll take the same approach that we did for Diablo 3 on PS3, it’s not a straight port so that means all User-Interfaces will be redesigned to completely take advantage of those consoles, so that it’s easier to use with a controller than it is with a PC and a mouse. So you know we don’t consider these straight ports there will be changes in the console versions that will make the game feel like it was made for that platform.”
Alex also revealed that even though development on the PS4 version is still going on, they don’t have a confirmed release date yet.
We also asked Alex about how development has become easier on the PlayStation 4 and whether it is a step above when compared to the PlayStation 3, to which he replied: “Yeah I would say in general that’s probably true, plus our console developers now have more time under their belt with the PS4 and the game engine itself, so in addition to the architecture being a bit more approachable our expertise has grown us well so we’re getting pretty good at developing for those platforms.”
