Caffeine, the indie science fiction horror adventure game that is being built in Unreal Engine 4, and which we have brought you so much news on in the past, has now been announced to be an episodic game when it finally releases next year. In an extensive and detailed FAQ, however, the developer, Dylan Browne, tried to answer all questions preemptively and allay fears.
‘The game will still only be sold as one unit. when the later two episodes are released the game will update itself with the new content free of any life sucking charges or fees,” he said, establishing that he was not breaking the game up to increase revenue or money.
He also established that he had creative reasons for wanting to break the game up like this.
“Releasing like this will allow me to get the first one to you sooner rather than later, not only allowing you to experience the first third of the game but also will allow me to tweak the later installments based on your feedback. The story itself up until now has had three distinct sections so the transition to an episodic release will suit the main story and in my opinion make the game better in the long run.”
It sounds like a win-win scenario overall, honestly, so I wouldn’t complain.
