Marvel’s Avengers Details Thor’s Combat Abilities And His “Pure Destructive Power”

As per the developers, “Mjolnir also grants Thor the most powerful ranged attack in the game."

Over the past few weeks, Crystal Dynamics have been teasing out new information on the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers, as they focus on each of the primary Avengers the game will launch with to detail their characters and their combat abilities. We’ve seen the spotlight being thrown on Captain America, on Iron Man, and most recently, on Black Widow. Now, it’s time for Thor, the God of Thunder, to have his moment.

According to the developers, Thor stands out from all the characters on the roster because of his “pure destructive power” – which makes sense, given the narrative context. In fact, they claim that when it comes to said destructive power, “nobody on the battlefield is more equipped than The God of Thunder.”

Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, allows him to “seamlessly transition” between ground and air combat, which should make for some interesting combo opportunities during combat. Additionally, as per the developers, Mjolnir also “grants Thor the most powerful ranged attack in the game”, while also giving him efficient crowd control abilities, since he can pin enemies down with the hammer.

Meanwhile, another very interesting ability in Thor’s arsenal is Odinforce. Lead Combat Designer Vince Napoli describes it as follows: “Odinforce allows Thor to stop attacking enemies in their tracks, channel destructive lightning into any of his attacks, and creative a powerful barrier of lightning that shields him from danger.

“Careful and measured use of the Odinforce is crucial for difficult fights, but knowing when to push the pedal to the floor can be just as important!”

Marvel’s Avengers is out on May 15, 2020 for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. Check out its recent 20 minute-long gameplay demo through here to see how the five characters it launches with will play.
