Mirrors Edge Catalyst is the sequel/reboot to the cult classic game from the previous generation- and it seems to be a bigger, better, and more refined take on the formula, promising to realize the potential of the flawed first Mirror’s Edge.
One of the ways that this new game is going ‘bigger’ is by adding a sort of pseudo open world to the mix. Lead Producer Amo Mostofi spoke exclusively with Examiner about how the game stays fresh, and how players progress.
“We looked at the free roaming aspects of the game,” said Mostofi, “There are a lot of side quests that we wanted to bring in there.” He discussed what these side activities and missions would be like.
“We do have lots of speed side quests, and there are a lot of delivery missions,” said Mostofi, “You can also unlock certain benefits in the game. You can hack a billboard that shows your signature, instead of the usual corporate messaging.”
It all sounds like it could go down very well… or detract from the core experience in a terrible way. I guess we will find out when Mirror’s Edge Catalyst releases on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC on June 7.
