Ever since the release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare back in 2007, the Call of Duty series can seemingly do no wrong. Ever since then it has seen blockbuster after blockbuster, and has become one of the most lucrative media franchises ever. With Modern Warfare 3 set for a release at the end of this year, what exactly will ensure that the series retains its iron grip on the video game playing populace?

Modern Warfare 3 Teaser Trailer

A Globe-trotting Adventure With A Great Sense Of Drama

The final chapter of the story has an epic scope. Expect great things

Those of you who’ve been following the recent leaks regarding Modern Warfare 3’s story line will be aware of what you’re in for in the single player component of the game. What looks like a large majority of the game’s twists and turns have already been leaked, and they look interesting and exciting indeed. In an attempt to avoid spoilers, I’ll summarise it as a globe-trotting adventure with a greater sense of drama and scale than any of the previous Call of Duty titles. Get excited, for it will be worth it.

The Infinity Ward Issue

You can't deny the impact of Infinity Ward on the franchise.

The only issue with the single player is the development cycle it has undergone/will undergo. With the staff of Infinity Ward somewhat weakened by the legal issues that occurred following the launch of Modern Warfare 2, an Activision developer, Sledgehammer Games, have joined Infinity Ward to assist in the development of the campaign. A big leap of faith will be in order as a result of this for, whilst they have a great deal of potential, the fairly new in-house developer lack experience. Without any major games under their belts already, Sledgehammer will have to make sure they’re at the top of their game. That said, the campaign sounds promising so far, so hopefully the final product will be equally as satisfying.

Rock Solid Multiplayer Options

Expect multiplayer to blow you away

The multiplayer too looks set to feature a whole host of new and exciting locations. Recent information would have us believe there to be a huge amount of maps ready for release with Modern Warfare 3, along with a new and revamped Spec Ops mode. Spec Ops was a fantastic addition to Modern Warfare 3 and, with a series of new Horde-style survival missions also thrown in for good measure, it could be the jewel in the multiplayer crown of Modern Warfare 3.
