Nintendo needs to change their marketing.

There are 100 million Wii owners out there but not a lot of them have bought the Wii U and Nintendo wants to rectify that and have sent a message to every Wii owner, or at least those that are connected.

The message tells people that the Wii U is actually a new console and not an addon.

“It’s time to discover Wii U,” the message reads (via Kotaku). “Wii U is the all-new home console from Nintendo. It’s not just an upgrade – it’s an entirely new system that will change the way you and your family experience games and entertainment.”

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata had earlier said that consumers had trouble differentiating between the Wii and the Wii U.

“Some have the misunderstanding that Wii U is just Wii with a pad for games, and others even consider Wii U GamePad as a peripheral device connectable to Wii. We feel deeply responsible for not having tried hard enough to have consumers understand the product.”

Tell us what you think in the comments section below.

Thanks, Polygon.
