Increased mission variety
This is a problem that affects all games in the shooter genre, but it is something Red Dead 3 will need to overcome regardless. Far too many missions involve going from A to B and killing all the enemies in your path. Occasionally we’re lucky enough to see a few escort or defence missions thrown in for good measure. Red Dead 3 needs to break this veritable curse to truly stand out.
Broader use of classic Western themes
Redemption captured the outlaw versus the law battle well. Other themes usually seen in the classic westerns of old were surprisingly absent however. Whilst its predecessor focused heavily on the affect that modernisation was having on native American colonies, Redemption had little or no mention of such themes. I’m not saying Red Dead 3 needs to be a complete clone of every spaghetti western out there, but more themes will help bolster an already solid narrative.
Refined engine
This one goes without saying but, when it comes to gaming sequels, a bit of new technology can go a long way. A new control scheme would go a long way, as some aspects of the game’s controls like the weapon wheel felt more archaic in comparison to other elements of the game. New animations would also help make Red Dead 3 more immersive. Imagine the possibilities if L.A. Noire’s facial animation tech were to get involved. Great things will be on the horizon indeed.
