Development

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 is being developed and published by CI Games. The company put out the first Sniper: Ghost Warrior games. While the company has admitted neither of the first two games were critical successes, it considers both titles to be commercial successes with more than 5.5 million copies sold. The development team has said this will be the first game in the series where the budget for the game will match those of AAA type games.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 was officially announced in December of 2014 though the development cycle has been slow moving since the game was confirmed. At the time of the announcement, the team said the game would be coming sometime in 2016 but they have since had to push back the release date. The development team was announced as including a couple of veterans of the video game development industry in Steve Hart, who is a former senior producer of Rebellion’s Sniper Elite V2, and combat veteran and former Marine Paul B. Robinson who has more than 20 years in the game development industry.

At E3 2015, the development team announced the first playable demo for Sniper Ghost Warrior 3.  The demo was not available on the show floor but was made private for journalists. In August of 2016, the game was officially revealed with a brand new trailer. At the same time, the development team said they had to push the release date back to January 17, 2017. Since that announcement the game’s release date was pushed back one more time, to April of 2017. When the game is released it will be available for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Story

Sniper Ghost Warrior 3

The story for Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 is similar to the other stories in the previous games, with a few changes to make it its own. This time around, players will take on the role of an American sniper that is dropped into the European country of northern Georgia very close to the Russian border. As the lone warrior the Americans are sending in, the players will be leaned on in an attempt to stop a brewing cold war.

This story is set in a modern day conflict based in Eastern Europe, and the sniper will eventually be caught in the middle of three warring factions, all of the missions will be played out in a realistic and immersive environment according to the development team.

Gameplay

Sniper Ghost Warrior 3

The development team has said players will be able to “dig deep into the Ghost Warrior DNA” as players will be able to choose exactly how they want to take out important targets. The choices will be between taking out those targets up close or from a great distance thanks to your sniper rifle, while the game will have players focusing on taking out these targets in order to finish missions, there is also a rather large emphasis on the character’s survival using both evasion and stealth depending on the situation.

In total, there are 3 different gameplay styles that can be used in each and every mission. The players can take on the role of a sniper, ghost and warrior. Each of these approaches have a different way in which the missions will be finished depending on whether the player wants to go in blasting, attempt to take out the targets from the safety of a long distance nest, or right up close.

The game is said to have a non-linear, sandbox-style gameplay on large open-ended maps gives players the flexibility to play and replay the missions in a number of different ways. When it comes to the mechanics of how to play those missions, there have been several changes from the last two games. Navigation through the open world have been revamped so that players can carry out “extreme navigation” moves like running, parkour and climbing and repelling.

There is also a new “scout mode” where the player can find places of interest, as well as highlight where on the map there might be explosives located. The player will also have the ability to have a drone, that can sneak through enemy encampments. The flip-side is that the enemies might be able to see where you are as they see the drone.

The open world will also have a dynamic day/night cycle that will come into play when people are trying to make the decision as to how they are going to approach a mission. The sniper will be better able to carry out some missions when they are able to use the cover of night.

There will be a safehouse for the sniper who can store various weapons and tools and go back to get them when they need to resupply. The players can even change up their weapons when they have unlocked different modes and tools.

Characters

Sniper Ghost Warrior 3

The main character is the sniper who the players will play as throughout the game. There isn’t a team of soldiers in this particular game, but rather just the one playable character. There are plenty of other NPCs who will appear in the game, such as the enemies the sniper is supposed to take out in order to finish their mission. These other characters have not been divulged by the development team.
